35" tires including spare in factory 2015

Post by dkjager » Thu Aug 11, 2016 1:25 pm

Driving a "new to me" 2015 power wagon. Please post feedback on 35" tires on a factory 2015 PW. I'm inclined to go with AEV Katla wheels and Toyo open country Mud Terrain 35 x 12.50 17s. I'd also like to know if a 35" tire, maybe a narrower one on factory rim, will fit in stock spare tire set up. Thoughts appreciated!

I have 285/75/17 Cooper ST Maxx and although not as big as the 35's or 315/70/17, they look better than the stock 285/70/17. I am not sure how Mike fit that 35" under the truck. My 285/75/17 fits, but it is super snug. I assume he aired it down a bit, greased it up, and stuffed it under the vehicle with a pry bar! lol. :D

35's are truly a great choice, probably really the best all around purpose size for our truck....but if you've got $$ for 4.88's or 5.13's---->37's. :poke:

I agree with Dr. D. If you're going to leave your truck stock just go with 35's. If you plan on a little suspension work and maybe gears in the future, 37's are the answer.

Almost. It has 18psi of air in it. And I used my foot to jam it in there. It fit though.

I have onboard air, so should I ever need it, the 18psi isn't an issue. I'll be rotating it out though shortly when it's time for my first rotation.

I'm truly amazed you got it to fit... When I had 35's on my 14 I tried like heck to get my, worn, 35" Nitto Grappler under there and couldn't get it to go with 0 PSI... No way with the, worn, 37" spare... I just have it strapped down in front of bed... Just throw crap on it when I need to...

I went 35's for a few months, spare fits fine, just push the heat shield over with your boot! Now I am on Toyo MT 37x13.50 r17 and American Outlaw +15 offset wheels. 1.5" leveling kit with shock extension, Thuren track bar, lots of trimming. Still rubs a bit with full flex. Hopefully will do the full Thuren Overland or King kit over the next year. I still have the 35" spare mounted, For the 37" to work, first look for one that is more like 36" x12.50 or less. Next you'll have to move the exhaust over. Hitch might be an issue as well. I hope to get one a bit taller by summer just in case.

Looks good jager! Why the heck did you cut the bumper up front like that... having rubbing issues there?! I thought the rubbing issues would be on the other side at the corner of the flare/pinch weld.

Ditto. I never considered it, but would an MT with more aggressive tread be more likely to rub vs the AT?

What are you seeing for mpgs with the x13.5s?

When you say "lots of trimming", can you elaborate? I'm comfortable with what trimming is required to run x12.5s but wanted to see what else was needed for the extra width.
