Vents for trans axles and transfer

Going to extend front and rear axle vents most likely under hood next to firewall, having trouble finding transfer case vent and auto trans vent, any help would be appreciated. Thanks 2017 model

There is a gas tank vent for the evap system as well. At least on my '12.

Right up by the engine/transmission. That would be a good one to move, unless you like check engine lights

Thanks for help on transafer case running it up next to radiator catch tank. Running front axle up next to brake booster. Running rear axle up in pocket in bed next to ram box. Still needing help finding trans and the gas evap system vent mines a 17 model. Thanks

IMHO, these are some of the easiest but often overlooked mods to make. Most don't realize that until it is too late. I have not extended or relocated the ones for my t-case, fuel tank or manual trans yet either. I have done the axles though. I just used fuel line hose, these for filters at the end https://www.zoro.com/baldwin-filters-fu ... lsrc=aw.ds and just cut off the tip not in use, these to couple the factory hose to the extension hose http://www.marinedepot.com/Two_Little_F ... DQodSxEOqg. Easy peasy. On my must do list for this summer. Fluids used to be cheap---not so much anymore.

Better to have it done & not need it, than to need it & not have it done. Hell, i still don't even have a snorkel. :lol:

Does anyone know if the little mushroom vent cap on the evap line on fuel system is molded into line or is removable. It hard to see and feel up in there. The transmission has a similar vent cap but it goes into soft rubber hose. Different cap than on front end, rear end and transfer case. Thanks

Where did you get the vent caps? How are the vents in the transfer, transmission, and gas tank retained? What size hose did you use? I'm planning on doing this project but haven't got to it yet.

the caps are all the factory ones just relocated, used 3/8" splices on front, rear and transfer case, pull the hose off transmission and put new took about 13' of 3/8 line for all. I used fuel line could use more like vacuum line but I could not find it here in my small town (would have been cheaper). For the evap line I used 5/8 line about 4' had to cut cap off end then slide line on and clamped the put vent camp back in the line under hood. they are all retained by friction the same way they come from factory. hope this helps

Additional info for anyone looking to do this.

The front axle vent comes off the driver's side of the axle and is clipped to the driver side shock tower. You can reach the end through fender liner. I added on to this line with a 3/8" barbed coupler and 3/8" fuel hose. The original plastic cap fit into the new 3/8" hose with a few wraps of electrical tape on the barb to snug up the fit. I ran this to the same location as Easttnrhino.

The rear axle vent comes off the driver's side of the axle and is zip tied to the frame crossmember. I added on to this line the same as I did for the front. Ran the end of the line up behind the driver side tail light. I drilled a small hole through the sheet metal behind the tail light so I could zip tie the vent in place.

The transfer case vent comes off the top of the T-case, between the input shaft and front output shaft. The factory vent line goes along the top of the transmission and is zip tied down to some wire loom. I cut the factory line where I could reach it and tied into it with the same 3/8" coupler and hose I used for the axles. I ran my extension over the top of the trans, up the fire wall, to the back passenger corner of the engine compartment (same location as Easttnrhino).

The transmission vent comes out the driver side near the top, right behind the bell housing. The factory line is only an inch or two long and has a different style cap than the axles and T-case. I pulled this line off and replaced it with 3/8" fuel hose and routed it into the engine compartment the same as the T-case. The factory cap fit into the 3/8" fuel line.

The fuel evap vent terminates right next to the T-case and trans vents. I don't have a picture, but if you're under the truck working on the gearboxes, look toward the driver side frame rail for the "mushroom cap". This isn't a rubber hose like all the other vent lines. It's hard plastic. I pulled the cap out, and shoved the ~1' remnant I cut off of the T-case vent into the hard plastic evap line until it snugged up. I wrapped the junction in electrical tape and gave it several coats of liquid electrical tape. I then spliced into the rubber hose remnant with 3/8" line and followed the gearbox lines up to the passenger side of the engine compartment. Easttnrhino's method of cutting the hard plastic line where it is round and extending it with 5/8" hose and hose clamps is probably a better method, but I didn't have hose clamps. I will keep an eye on this one and do it again if I see any signs that my tape isn't holding up.
