2014-17 tire size consensus

If it's about Power Wagons, all generations, this is where it'll go. This is the original PWR Forum Power Wagon Technical Discussion Section. And this includes everything that doesn’t fit in any one of the other categories related to the truck goes here!

My truck clears the 7' garage specs however there's a metal pole that hangs down around 6'10'' and scrapes the top of the truck as it goes up the ramp. My clearance lights clear the pole but not the rear of the roof. I won't be able to go up there once I have 315/70-17's. fortunately I have a reserved space at ground level. I would be surprised if yours makes it up with the new tires.

Im clearing the garage with a couple inches to spare, looks like I have room for another inch or two before tapping. Need to take a pic.

Does anyone know the backspacing/offset of the stock 2017 wheels? That extra inch of width on the 315 70 17 duratrac looks like it will rub upfront, the rear looks like it would be pretty close to the frame as well. This is from just measuring today without a wheel. Last thing I want is to be on the trail and its starts rubbing. I may take a stock tire off the truck and take one of the 315 duratracs to the tire shop and swap wheels and throw it on and see if it rubs.

Anyone running AEV salta wheels?

How is everyone feeling about 4.10's and 35's? My jeep was a no go had to regear to 4.56. Not sure how sensitive the 6.4 and its tranny is to the slight size increase.

I'm feeling good about 35's and 4:10's, the 6.4L handles it just fine. I didn't really notice much of a difference.

The key word being "driving". How's the leaking water pump and clapped out cam coming along?

Sorry guys, it's hard to type right now after patting myself on the back so hard. Doing a same-day ball joint purchase and install, swapping a wheel bearing, solving my engine rough running issue and proving my cam is fine, doing an alignment, installing and adjusting all steering components, loading everything we own into the truck and trailer, waking up at 2am and driving 10 hours has left me pretty stoked. Good BJ's can solve some serious issues Image

And rodeo, that's exactly what the name means

You want interesting? Read this Page http://forum.powerwagonregistry.org/vie ... 6&start=25 and the next two and tell me how your Balljoints feel now haha.
I'm just bugging dude. Let me know about those emf joints. I'm going to need something for the dually soon and it's emf or dynatrac

Edit; and to stay on topic maybe some 37's on that dually...

Thanks Rodeo, you can't believe how stoked I am everything is either fixed or the problem figured out. I like this crowd, it's fun to blaspheme with you guys

nts that's nuts dude. I've been in -8 Fahrenheit and that sucked hard. I can't imagine going another -20 or -30 below that. And then working on my truck in that with frozen tools.

37x12.5 Toyo RT's on +18mm offset wheels rub the fender liner and base of the inner part of the fender flare as you turn the wheels in. Mild trimming required.

since we are talking about '14-'17 wagons. im sure you guys will want to scold me (and rightfully so I guess) but I was thinking of getting some 35x12.5r20 mastercraft courser mxt with 20x9 with probly either +18 or +12 offset wheels  ( im not modifying my suspension in any way) . found a clippet of info in the tire section someone posted in which thuren said for aftermarket wheels a +18 to +25 offset was the best compromise so there wouldn't be any rubbing of the control arms or fender wells. im guessing this is solid advice I can follow ? I did find one guy in the tire section who installed 35x12.5r18 with 0 offset and said initially there was no rub but he never reported back if there was any problems later on, im guessing if there was it was probly real minor.

any word on the mastercraft courser mxt ? there was a guy around here I found installed some but I couldnt see where he reported back. they resemble the cooper stt pro a lot and the websites are similar so im thinking they might be cooper tires but quit a lot cheaper than stt pros.

1. Any wheel that's 20" gets you automatically filed into the bromobile & maller section of the forum.

2. Buying Mastercraft is like paying $20 for a handy from the 80lb tweaked out crack skank, that reeks of urine , weed, & stale Doritos, because you were too cheap to pay the $150 for the proper lady. The end result may be the same, but the shame stays.

Just to give you a take on 20's, nothing wrong with having nice wheels. But when you go up in wheel size, just remember you are decreasing the amount of side wall you'll have when you air down on the tire. That's a strong reason to not go with 20's. 18's are certainly a new preference for people who want a larger wheel than a 17, but still want some sidewall viability.

ya im aware of the drawbacks to 20's. im keeping the stock 17" wheels and might (not sure yet) even put on some 305/70r17 tires for offroad. it only takes 30min to swap back to the 17 if I want. back to the offset of the 20's. the difference between 0 and +18 is about 3/4". do you know if there would be any major rubbing with the 0 or is it better to stay with +18 ?

regarding the air pressure sensors in the new wheels. is there different brands, one more quality than another ? will the truck automatically recognize the new sensors or does it have to go to a dealer from programming ? and how does the speedo need to be recalibrated for 35" tires ?

Aftermarket sensors are a crapshoot, other forums have tons of complaints about the cheap ebay sensors. I used OE and they have been perfect. The computer automatically picks them up.

like anything, you get what you pay for I guess. ive mostly boycotted the Chinese and their junk products so ill just go with oe sensors (not made in china I hope). do you happen to know any good sites that have the micro phish so I can get the part numbers ?
