RIP Front Propeller Shaft :(

Post by pdavey » Sat Mar 18, 2017 12:02 pm

So over 202,000 miles and my front propeller shaft started failing (squeaking and grinding). Probably due to the salt this winter and not enough lubrication.

Instead of rebuilding I am just going to have the whole thing replaced at this point given all the wear.

Just going with the NAPA part. Supposedly it is easier to grease then the stock one.

All back in one piece with no squeak. The new prop shaft has greasable fittings all over. Much like the original should have had.

Well damn, Peter...

It's nice having you out front doing recon for me. I just hope I remember what went wrong for you when I finally put some miles on mine!

I see them!!

Might be worth getting this even if old one is still good. With all the time wasted trying to find the "hidden" fitting.

For the current NAPA price in my above post, the NAPA prop shaft price is the same or cheaper than having my current rusty one rebuilt by a driveshaft shop, at least by me. (Meaning---3 new u-joints & a new double cardan joint).

I will check when I am home this weekend. I didn't see it immediately but also haven't inspected it that closely yet.
