Anyone have one ? Looking for real world concealed carry input and also your thoughts good or bad on the XD line.

Looked at one in Cabela's today & really liked it. LOVE the 2 different types of magazines. Fits my hand like a glove. The icing on the cake is this: http://www.springfieldpromo.com/

Gonna be hard not to pull the trigger on this before June 30th.

I had a full size 45 acp and 40 s&W sub compact of the first generation XDs. I shot them a ton and carried both. They were reliable and not bad to learn to shoot. I used to have a ton of handguns and started consolidating all my firearms down to common platforms/calibers so the XDs went down the road. My biggest gripe with them was the shape of the slide on the first generation XD. I never felt like I could get a good grip on it. They fixed that with subsequent generations.

My old boss was a super picky and technical guy that owns lots of pistols and he swore by the XD's. He also liked the Shield but had several major FTF and FTE issues with them, particularly after testing the backup gun of a sheriff deputy that required a hammer and vice to get rounds out of it after it seized within the first mag. He loved XD's and like Tommy said the newer ones are better.

Once upon a time I bought an HS2000 for $250...Then Sprungfeld started importing them and they became $600 and got a Grip Zone!

I shot a bunch of three gun with an XD, I got about 15k rounds out of it before the mags were getting tired and the springs in the pistol had to be changed. I had three XD's including a sub compact, now I have zero. I have 20K rounds through an M&P9 V1.0 without a single mechanical failure (I clean it about every 5k rounds). I can't think of a single instance that I wished I had those XD's back. There are pro's that shoot XD's, and that's fine and good, but I think there are just much better platforms out there for the new inflated Springfield Armory price.

I will also look into the S&W M&P's. Thanks Reloaderguy, that is some good info. I am going to start carrying again, EDC. Doubt I'll ever fire 20k rounds through anything, but you never know.

Having shot and owned a lot of handguns over the years. The last 3 handguns I have bought are, M&P 40 Pro Series with 4.25" barrel. 9mm Shield. 380 BodyGuard with th green laser sight. All 3 have never had a problem with .them. The 9mm Shield will bugle the case like a Glock with a hot load like a +P

Wife went from the 9mm Shield to the 380 Bodyguard. She likes the 380 for her purse. She said the Shield was too heavy. She also has shoulder problems. :( Me, I don't carry anything under a S&W40.

I have an XDS 45 & XD9 - no issues on either... the XDS is my primary carry gun unless I'm going lighter with my LCP 380 Crimson (biking/running)...

I owned two XD's for several years. Shot the crap out of them, very reliable and accurate guns. I sold them both off to get out of the caliber (.45) and because I didn't like the grip safety.

Guns, especially pistols and competition shotguns, are very personal items. However, of the 2 dozen + pistols I currently have in stock, I've had far more than that pass in & out of my possession at one time. I've had two XD's, a full size/long slide tricked out .45, and a standard .40. They were fine pistols, not a fan of the Springfield upcharge import from Croatia deal, but whatever...I'm not a huge fan of the high bore axis and tang safety (although I don't mind it on my 1911's). Thus, I've transitioned them out for other platforms, I have 3 S&W M&P's (from what I can remember in my safe ;) --a new 2.0 long slide .40, a carry .45, and full size .45) and 3 Glocks. My current fave carry gun is the G43...and I might dump the G43 if and when Glock develops a single stack carry .40 like the G42 (.380) and G43 (9mm)...but until then, the G43 checks all the boxes for an ideal carry gun. It has replaced my Ruger LCR in .357 on most days as my goto carry gun, although they're comparable in size.

Good luck...buy what you want, if you don't like it, trade it off for something else--guns are fairly fungible assets. :lockedandloaded:

Looks like it is also going on sale Friday, for $469.00. I hate to buy from the big box stores but the best any dealer would do by me is $490+ tax & none of them knew anything about the special mail in rebate deal for 4 free magazines, double mag holder & holster. Kinda hard to pass that up.

Didn't the XD's used to come with 2 mags, a holster & a nice plastic case ? I think they did about 10 years or so ago.

My XD's came with two magazines each, a dual mag holder, and a holster all in the case. The mag holder and holster are basically throw-aways. I wished they had made the case smaller, and saved me a few bucks by leaving those crap items out, but I'm sure they sold a lot of guns because "look, it already comes with a holster!".

Even still, the $120 in free magazines is good. You get 2 of these: https://www.cheaperthandirt.com/product ... e=&from=fn And 2 of the flush, short ones.

Yup, it went on sale today for $469.99. It is ordered & on it's way------ but with NY compliant 10 rd magazines.

Just got the call that my gun is in. On my way to Cabela's for the 1st of the 2 trips that will be required in NY. Got to get a copy of the receipt with the Serial # on it, then take to County Clerk pistol permit person, have it officially put on my pistol permit. Then go back to Cabela's, show them that it is on my license now & bring it home. They carry it to the front of the store & give it to me as i leave.

Hope you enjoy your new 'toy'! Does sound like a little bit of a PITA... I laugh as they carry them to door for you in PA as well - especially when I am carrying....

So, it was $3.00 for the addition of the new gun & $3.00 for a new permit card. I didn't realize we had to pay. That is something new since I bought my Beretta 92FS in 1992. I didn't have to pay anything to have guns put on then. Going to pick it up today, as soon as the wife gets home from work. She has 9 working days left. She also has my guns on her permit, I wonder if they will even let her do that anymore ?
