Truxxx 2" Front Leveling Kit-Opinions wanted

Post by Numbnuts » Sun Mar 19, 2017 8:49 am

Id like to level out my new to me 2011 PW CC.

Truxxx website says 2 hrs install followed by an alignment. Keeps the factory ride and all factory shocks/parts etc.

Anybody recommend this kit? Is it true that I don't need any longer shocks or other susp parts? Hows the ride quality?

I did search a bit to no avail........Thanks Numbnuts :lockedandloaded:

If you want to lift it 2 inches I would get a set of thuren 3 inch coils. Much better than a spacer and not much more money. That's a better way to go if it was me.

Great thought friend. I see that the cost is 350 for the thuren coil. The truxx is about 200. Definitely will think on it . THX

I did Thuren 3" coils and couldn't be happier on my 2012. I also did shocks, but that's just me!

While I'm thinking...... has anyone ever LOWER the rear end by 1.5 inches to level the truck????

Would I still be able to run 35's that way????? BTW- I don't wanna go larger than 35" tires

I have seen several threads on the diesel forums of guys doing that, they call it a reverse level. Just remove the rear block. Im sure 35s would still be possible.

If your end goal is the "all in one shebang", I'd get the taller coils, track bar, upgraded shocks, and stops, and whatever else I'm leaving out from the "kit". If your current suspension is fine, not sagging or at fatigue failure, and just want a level stance, the Truxx 1.5" PW specific level is a good choice, it's what I've been running for over a year and has served me fine. When my suspension is shot, 50-60K mile area, then I'll pull the spacers and replace all the components with a leveled Theuren kit up front. Out back, I will not use Theuren's 1500 rear coils; however, I will run his rear sway bar and new shocks out back.

^^^^^ That would be a good setup for sure.

FWIW, from what I have gathered from reading on-line is his springs (front and rear) are basically the same rate as the stock PW springs. On his site in the Power Wagon specific section it states "The included rear coils springs are quite a bit softer than stock. The ride quality and suspension travel benefit also comes with the drawback of more sag when weight is in the bed, or vertical on the hitch. The rear suspension with our coils will sag with weight similar to a 1/2 ton truck.", but I think that is just a cary-over from the regular 2500 section. His rear springs may have more travel that the stock PW ones, Im am not sure, but it sounds like they are about the same spring rate and height otherwise.

In all honesty, I think our trucks in stock form do sag almost as much as many half ton trucks.

It would be an interesting test: stock PW and similarly configured stock RAM 1500 (same size bed, crew cab, 4x4), put same load in each bed, measure deflection. Remove load, hook up same sized trailer on each hitch, measure deflection

I feel sorry for you guys with rear coils in the towing aspect. I think it has a lot of potential but after towing an enclosed trailer the last 1600 miles with my truck only sagging a little, I'm very happy with my stock leaves. Axle weights were as follows,
Truck front: 4800
Truck rear: 4500
Trailer single: 3500 (oh boy)

The truck was just a touch nose high. Now that it is unloaded it is just a touch tail high. By the way, towing with the Kings on was a whole new experience. I didn't have my swaybar on and it was a very comfortable experience.

Back to coils, I wonder if someone will come out with variable rates or something similar anytime soon? The rear of those trucks might be a good crazy-guy-hack-fab candidate for coilovers

Been readin' around the diesel/cummins forum.

Seems a bunch of folks wanted level without going any higher in the front.

Seems like the cheapest way for me to level my PW.

I really have no interest in replacing any components that are not in need of replacement. My PW has less than 20K miles on the clock.

And I don't plan on doing any hardcore wheelin' :geek:

Removing the rear block (which is actually short sections of leaf spring) would also help with axle wrap.

Sorry, but coils might sag, but they perform better when towing. There is more stability.

Progressive would be nice for loading, but they'd be harsher than the linear rate springs we have. Remember a progressive weight gets stiffer with the more weight you add on it.

I've never heard someone say that coils perform better when towing, but I have heard leaves perform better. Have to disagree with you. Leaves are a sway bar in themselves, and are naturally progressive. Especially since you guys get screwed with soft coils and a crappy rear Trackbar geometry.

Linear rides better on the street and off road. Progressive tows better. A true dual-rate spring would be a cool thing to see on your trucks - like Carli does, except a design they actually works. You probably have enough spring length to make it work

Complete opposite from everything I've read and personal experience. So we will disagree. But then again I actually use an anti-sway hitch properly while most don't. So maybe leafs are more stable without? Then again, there are still guys on the net arguing that drums are superior. :thppt:

I wouldn't say progressive rate tows better so much as handles a load better without the sag. We had progressive rate Tuff Trucks springs on the 1500, which was a huge improvement.

No FALR??

960lbs trailer hitch when WD applied properly 880lbs on the rear. I could actually stand to shift some more weight to the forward axle since I'm about 40lbs away from FALR. I've got 880lbs on the rear after my 3rd pass. I should be able to distribute that. (in fact I did adjust the hitch, but I did not drive over the scales a 4th time.)

Haha - weight distributing hitches are only used on relatively constant weight trailers - and not on dump trailers and the like. I need all of my stock rake -so a leveling kit would be silly for me.

The coil spring linear rates on the latest gen Power Wagons aren't that different than the average effective spring rates of the earlier generation non-linear leaf packs. The payload differences between the trucks are due to the fact that the latest gen trucks are nearly 1000 pounds heavier with the same GVWR.

What is kinda odd is Bill2014's front axle weight with the trailer is almost the same as MikeKey's is when his is unloaded or with the weight distribution hitch.

I'm constantly over the scales in both directions (I pay for material by the ton)
