Don't try to make too much sense of lefty gun control, in California it's easier to own a semi-auto beltfed M249 than an off list variant of an already approved handgun.

Re: savage lrp 6.5 creedmor
AR's just kind of get stale after a while. I find I shoot them very little anymore despite having built dozens over the years (only have a few left). I kind of have a hankering for an SR15E3 but not real motivation to buy one. As much as I like guns I get bored with them easily and they seem to leave my life almost as quickly as they arrived. AR's specifically, are so much like tactical man-child legos that after I've reconfigured them ten times over I sell them for the next project. The guns that do stick around are the ones I built from scratch that hold some type of sentimental value. Probably why I'd rather build boltguns and USPSA Prod/Limited guns anymore.adeluca73 wrote: Mike, you're right it's an addiction. I've been collected (via my dad) since I was an early teen, and never really stopped. I forgo cheap guns, some guys like the quantity of having several inexpensive firearms, not for me, but each their own. I do meticulous research before buying any gun--usually 6mos-1yr before making multi-thousand dollar firearm purchases. I enjoy the research and then the hunt for that exact model.
AR's are a good platform to build off for several applications. Although I don't have all that many, well I mean it's relative I guess, but they're not a huge % of my overall inventory I guess is what I'm saying. I have a big, heavy, very accurate AR-10 in .308 w/ an identical upper in 260Rem (I prefer that over the 6.5C personally), the .308 is a 22" heavy fluted Kreiger bbl and the 260 is the same, but 24". I have a mil issue/spec Colt M-4 with a floated bbl, 3lb Velocity trigger, and a few other nicety mods, which is a fighting rifle---but I also have a White Oak Armament 18" fluted 1/8, heavy bbl SPR upper that sits atop that lower which shoots sub-moa with most 55-77 gr bullets. I have a LWRC M6A3 DMR piston gun in 6.8SPC, 18" heavy contour BBL which is also a great rifle, not match accurate, but consistent, and clean shooting. I shoot factory ammo out of that gun because I bought a ton of it on sale (115gr Hornady SST) and it groups it very good. When the 1000rnds of that is gone, I'll reload in the same config as close as I can match the factory load.
Bottom line, starting with a single AR-15 and AR-10 platform gives you a lot of possibilities to build from, DI or piston, both are good options.
Anyways, pictures make threads better.
Re: savage lrp 6.5 creedmor
How do you like that steyr ? You don't see a lot of those, although I do have a buddy with one in white furniture.
It is a bit of a disease. I find as I get older I just get better at justifying why I need the next one.
I decided I needed a good walking through the woods gun for when I draw the short straw hunting and I have to go into the timber to kick something up.
Wound up with a Marlin Levergun in 45-70.And then I needed to improve on the iron sights, so it now wears a Trijicon mro red dot. She's a thumper.
I also handload/reload and in addition to making more accurate than factory ammo, and/or less expensive ammo, you can also tailor loads to what you want to accomplish/ reduce recoil / make lighter practice ammo etc...

My next rifle will be a .338LM for around $3000.00. Still researching on which one. And a scope. Looking at USO, S&B, Nightforce for around $3,500.00 or less.

Re: savage lrp 6.5 creedmor
I was very into firearms a few years ago. People were crazy and scared in California and I joined in on it. My dads forging company went from making racing pistons to AR-10/15 receivers and they made a lot of money. I have a case of forging a at home. I made one into a rifle when it was still legal here and had fun with the build, but as soon as I started shooting it got bored. AR's are just boring to shoot to me, there is nothing special about them to me. I now much prefer a nicely built pistol, or a wood furnished rifle. My glock is the same way, now that I own it I am constantly disappointed with how hard it is to get it to shoot accurately and how poor the ergonomics are. When I go to the range I come home bleeding from my trigger finger because the trigger guard doesn't come low enough so I drag my finger on it every shot. Boring. At least it doubles as a hammer.

I'm thinking.338 is my next rifle as well, I've been eyeing one from surgeon as well as the Sako trg 42. What have you been considering? I have a uso st-10 on my .308 and it is a stellar optic, glass is extremely clear. I was thinking s&b for the .338 as I've heard such good things about them, never laid hands or eyes on one in person though.RustyPW wrote:My next rifle will be a .338LM for around $3000.00. Re: savage lrp 6.5 creedmor
Haha rusty that's not enough for a good 338... Lol. Maybe in usd it is. I built a 338lm on an aics ax chassis with a blueprinted rem700 action, timmney trigger, rock creek 30" barrel straight taper and threw a night force 5-25 with a 40moa rail and tall rings. All in I was over $8500 with smithing. But being that the cad-usd is $1=$0.75 your right in the same ballpark. I highly suggest a chassis or a Macmillan stock. Plan on some weight. And a brake!!
For pistols I have a few gen 3 and gen 4 glocks, couple berettas, one poly smith n Wesson, few Walthers, couple of sig 226s and my newest and most fav to shoot is an H n K p30.
This one \/ And since we got some 10/22s up

F&D defense sells a .338Laupa for around $4800. My .308 F&D was around $3300, their 260Rem upper was around $2500. Weaver sells a great tac scope for around $1200, I have the FFP, illuminated, 3-15x50, Enhanced Mil-Dot, 30mm, on a LaRue mount. Excellent glass, made in Japan (their lesser scopes are Twain or China) & half the cost of a Nightforce or US Optics.RustyPW wrote:My next rifle will be a .338LM for around $3000.00. Fun gun that isn't an AR. Now that there are low cost magazines and aftermarket support they are pretty cool. It's a solid 2MOA gun with a surprisingly decent trigger for a bullpup. There's a company in Austria making rails and brass deflectors.JD 500 wrote:How do you like that steyr ? You don't see a lot of those, although I do have a buddy with one in white furniture.

I bought a Marlin .450M in a stainless laminate XLR model, it's a definite thumper, like a 12ga Sabot, or a muzzleloader. I actually shoot 300gr Hornady SST sabot in my 12ga rifled bbl, 250gr SST over 100gr Blackhorn 209 in my MZL, and 325gr SST in my .450. Shot a nice black bear with that .450M, dropped in 2 steps, It was impressive.JD 500 wrote: Wound up with a Marlin Levergun in 45-70.And then I needed to improve on the iron sights, so it now wears a Trijicon mro red dot. Take a look at the new Bushnell HDMR Gen2. I bought one and makes the NF I had look silly. Scopes have come a long way in the last 10 years. A Razor HD could easily replace any of the scopes on Rusty's list.adeluca73 wrote:F&D defense sells a .338Laupa for around $4800. My .308 F&D was around $3300, their 260Rem upper was around $2500. Bushnell has some really good scopes. And vortex has come a loooooooong way. Nikon scopes are also very good these days. If you don't need a scope to survive day in day out abuse you don't need to spend the big bucks anymore. just stay away from tasco lol

I've had some not so stellar Bushnell experiences. Had their 1st gen Trijicon knock-off (now 1xMP http://www.bushnell.com/all-products/ri ... tics/1x-mp) on my 1st AR--it was decent, no complaints for a $120 optic. Then had a Trophy Bone Collector MZL Scope break after a season, had their Elite 3200 rainguard 3-10x44 on my '06,it was less than great in low light, replaced it with an Elite 4200, not much better. I hear the 6000 series Elite are a good scopes and their new AR lines, but I've moved on from Bushy, too many other quality choices out there.Reloaderguy wrote:Take a look at the new Bushnell HDMR Gen2. I'm a huge Sightron fan. I challenge folks to find better glass at a more fair price. I have 3 of their scopes on hunting rifles, SII Big Sky line, 3-12x42 with a Hunter Holdover reticle ($600-$750), which is on par with a VX-7, Steiner, Zeiss for less. Their SIII line is more $ but is more of a long range bench line & a focused 30mm tactical line. Their SI line is on par with a VX-II, but priced like a rifleman, I've had two of those in 3-9x40, for about $140 or less and were wonderful glass, lightweight scopes.
Lastly, I have 2 Redfield Revolution (Leupold factory) 2-7x32 scopes on my 30-30 & .450M & they are amazing quality scopes, light, excellent low light, & can be had for about $150-$170.

I hear you, I've never had much interest in Bushnell. I'm only saying that was then and this is now. There is a bunch of mid-grade optics on the market that are absolutely killing it with quality and features. Bushnell is one of them. Their higher end scopes aren't the cheap stuff you may be used to.adeluca73 wrote: I've had some not so stellar Bushnell experiences. Re: savage lrp 6.5 creedmor
My last rifle I built was a 300 Kong. Had over $8000.00 in that rifle. The rifle shot good, but I didn't like shooting it. It was more about recoil management, then trigger control.Just wasn't comfortable with it. I sold it for what I had in it. The guy who has it now, only shoots it to impress his friends. A few of them have gotten the scope ringed foreheads and black eyes. I figure $3000.00 would be my starting price on a .338LM. I don't want to spend a small fortune on the rifle like I did before. Be retired, you have to watch your budget more closely. One of the scopes that I'm looking at, is the Beast from Nightforce. Had a USO scope on the Kong. Oldest boy has a S&B on his .338LM.

I am very lucky in that I live right down the road from EuroOptics so I can go fondle high end glass and look through them side by side. There is come crazy good new stuff coming out in the mid-price segment as Reloaderguy noted. You gotta pay to play when it comes to premium long range glass. It makes the PW addiction seem economical by comparison.

Re: savage lrp 6.5 creedmor
Rusty, take a look at the Sightron line, they've been around for 20yrs, & ive had more scopes than I can recount. Back around 2005 when S&B won the USMC 40 contract from US Optics, I purchased the Civ version of the PMII, a 14x scope through a mil-operator program for about $16-1800 I think. It was great, but heavy...sold it in 2010 for about the same & replaced with a Sightron SII 3-9x40 for about $300, good scope, but not on level w/ the S&B, traded that through SWFA for a Sightron Big Sky 3-12x44 ($5-700ish) & wow, its an amazing scope & the glass is as good as I've seen on S&B, on my old Zeiss 3-9 & old Swarovski 2-10. I've sold & replaced the Zeiss & Swarovski with other Sightron Big Sky scopes, & used the $ I made back for ammo and/or other guns. The only glass I've seen that beats the Sightron Big Sky glass is the high end Swarovski and Leica scopes, and some Kahles scopes but they're $$$$$. I've only looked through one NF scope on an M25 Crazy Horse, & it was nice. But those scopes are $$ more for being indestructible than their precision ground glass.RustyPW wrote:My last rifle I built was a 300 Kong.
SWFA also markets their own line of SS (super sniper) scopes at the mid-level price range & they are really full featured scopes, I've used them on an AR before & they work great, can't go wrong with them.
Bottom line, spending $2-3k on a scope isn't necessary anymore to get a phenomenal scope that will out perform most shooter's ability.

How is the edge-to-edge resolution and clarity on those scopes? Another scope maker I was looking at is Valdada. All the scopes I've been looking at have their glass made in either Germany or the US. Won't buy chinese glass. Had enough of their shit quality.
A little research on Sightron. They're made in the Phillipines with chinese glass now. They was made in Japan with Japanese glass which would have been ok.
