LED lights, do i need canbus?

If it's about Power Wagons, all generations, this is where it'll go. This is the original PWR Forum Power Wagon Technical Discussion Section. And this includes everything that doesn’t fit in any one of the other categories related to the truck goes here!

LED lights, do i need canbus?

Post by NickPic83 » Tue Mar 07, 2017 6:40 am

just picked up my 2017 PW last weekend. i hear 2014+ trucks are a little more picky than previous years with LED lights. i was wondering what lights need canbus and which dont. it has some LED's from the factory . i am looking into changing out the following

-License plate lights
-3rd brake light cargo lights
-Ram box lights
-glove box lights

i also will be doing the low beams and fogs but i will probably just use setups from TRS.

You'll need resistors or "cancelers" for all but cargo lights if I'm not mistaken. Some brands don't need them but others will still give you a warning light even if labeled as "canbus" compatible.

I've done the interior, license plate, 3rd brake cargo, reverse and underhood lamp all without requiring resistors. Just make sure you buy the canbus compatible ones.

I bought Phillips Hi intensity LED for the cargo and back-up lights. I get a back-up light out message about every 3rd time I start my truck.

Is it OK to link to another forum? I used the same ones this guy detailed in his posts. It should be everything you need to know.
