Winch Bumper

Post by fbenross » Wed Jan 04, 2017 11:25 pm

I bought this Bumper from a guy on ebay, for my 1970 Scout 800.. he's been selling them for awhile he's sold 54....it was $325 delivered. I'm really impressed with the quality and the price. I wish he made affordable 3G bumpers.

The bumper measures 60"wide x 10"deep and 16"high and weighs 44 lbs. The bumper is made out of 3"x 4"x 1/8" steel tubing with closed ends. Main tube hoop is 1 ¾" .120 wall, with 1" .095 wall side tubes. The mounting brackets are ¼" thick and bolt right up to the stock bumper location, with the stock hardware. The clevis mounts are 1" wide.   Winch plate is also 1/4" and features our trademark "Bottle Opener" stamped into it. Compatible with most winches that have the market standard 10” x 4.5” bottom foot mounting profile.

Do you have any stipulations? Cost, power, electric or hydraulic, etc.

If it were me, I would definitely go with a 10,000 or 12,000lb Warn of some sort. The Zeon 10/12-S would probably be my first pick, although it depends on how much off-road use it might see.

I've been running a warn powerplant on my wife's Rubicon for years and it works great. Having the additional air compressor attached is a huge plus

For a 8000lb. winch, the 8274 has pretty much been the gold standard for years, but they are not cheap.

When I first heard about them I thought it was a joke. Like some harbor freight contraption, like their 10kW inverters for $100. Haha I was so wrong... Now I understand it is an awesome idea, it is so much simpler than having to install or carry a compressor or tank. Very sound investment.

The new ones are expensive but you can buy an old model for way cheap, maybe $200-300. All the rebuild parts are out there too, and good tutorials. Very popular setup and can be had cheap. Plus the old models just look cool.

Loving my retirement, even hernia surgery 2 weeks ago can't keep me down :)..Rust was right, I've been so busy, I'm loosing weight like an anorexic hooker. I'm putting this thread to bed finally. Got the winch bumper mod finished on the 70 Scout 800, all bolt on, no drilling. Whole up grade under a grand. Bumper-eBay 325 $. Got it Pwd coated 200$. Winch 9.5 T, 450$ from Amazon. Came with rope and aluminum fairlead, Smitty Built badged, made in China, XRC badge. All prices are delivered..... Next is Pwr steering and F. discs. Then I will have a easy driving Scout, and a 4X4 I can actually fix anything on, and it's EMP proof :) They can burry me in it. Later Ben :patriot: GO ARMY AVIATION
