Re: "OX" build
I got them off Amazon... They're made by niilight and fairly cheep. Pretty rugged design, I have four more lights that I will install on the front and side of OX as well. When I am done, I will be able to light up 360° around OXTwinStick wrote:What brand are they ? Sure seem to light up the night well.
I had smoke coming out of hears for while trying to picture how to wire them up . I wanted two of them to come on when I hit reverse, and then all four of them to light up when I just light in the rear. Two relays and a toggle switch did the trick and now I have this sophisticated wiring connecting under the body of my truck .

Re: "OX" build
Gents I am asking for everyone's advice?
I know I stated that I was going to put on a set 37 12.50 r17 nitto terra grapplers... But I am second guessing my decision to owning my first set of ATs!!!
Which is where you guys come into play.
I had no issues at all with both sets of my 35 nitto extreme mud grapplers. But... I only used my second set once off road when I went with whiteyblack to uharrie. I Also believe that what little trail riding I do in uharrie or anywhere to that affect, that the Terra grapplers would perform just as well. On top of that the Terra grapplers have a 50k mileage warranty.
Another big concern of mine is... I do not want OX to be seen as a mall crawler... So am I being to Superficial... Or... Is my red neck ass starting to show to much?
Ok... Give me your thoughts, comments, concerns?

Re: "OX" build
If you're preference is Nitto go for the ridge grappler instead of the terra. It looks way meaner but still has good street manners. The Toyo RT is also a good option for a very aggressive appearance with good streetability. Nothing wrong with wanting a certain look. I run Toyo MT's on my wagon in 37x13.50r17 and wish I could justify a lighter less aggressive tire I believe the RT has a 45k warranty as well. I'm running them on a full size van in 285/75r17

Do not throw something at me when I say this... But... when I see all those mall crawlers around here, they seem to have ATs Or toyo's sitting on a set of 22s.Colibri wrote:If you're preference is Nitto go for the ridge grappler instead of the terra. The niito's have done so good for me, that it is hard for me to go elsewhere.
Thanks for your input I will look at the ridge grapplers.

Lol I can't stand "bro" trucks with the ridiculous offset 22" shiny rims and low profile mud terrains. That shit makes my skin crawl
All terrains look very non threatening even in a 37" though, so I can totally understand wanting a more aggressive looking tire.

I have Toyo RTs on my marine unit...
I had MTs and really liked them, but I found I wanted a little better street manners. The RTs are quieter, for sure. I haven't had them off road, but I don't think performance will suffer anywhere but thick mud.

Re: "OX" build
Clarification-the MTs were great on the street until about 50% tread. Then they were loud, hard, and felt a little out of round.

Re: "OX" build
Yes sir, 35s. I haven't moved the axle, and I tow a camper, so I stuck with 35s this time. I didn't want to find out that 37s were too squirrely while towing. My camper gets a little tail-happy at times. Poor layout for weight distribution.
As you can see, the hybrid style tread isn't too mild looking. Your reputation wouldn't be sullied. LOL!

Re: "OX" build
That's a good question. I got 40k out of the Toyo MTs, so I think the RTs should be about the same since the MTs weren't your typical soft compound. I'll try to remember to report back. There are a few guys on here that have had RTs for a while. They may be able to give you a better idea.

Re: "OX" build
Turned 100000 miles last night on my way back from Biloxi, and wouldn't you know it... The water pump goes out. Not complaining at all, I have only had two issues in the 11 years OX and me have been together. The locker in my rear end went out and then my water pump (knocking on wood).
Well, gota get out there and change her before the saints kickoff at 1200.

Re: "OX" build
So... I am starting to work on my biggest build that I plan to do with OX
Once the HEMI goes, I am going to swap her out with the Cummins 4BT. Who if any has any experience with this and or where to look for tech advice on how to do it, and where the best place is to get the parts?
Once this comes to reality, I also plan to go with the G56 tranny. I priced the tranny, steering column, and all the plastics that go inside the truck to make the truck look like it came standard with a manual tranny, and the cost will be in the neighborhood of $10K just for the tranny and parts.
So it appears that I will end up putting more money in this truck to do the engine swap than I did when I purchased her in 2006. I am fine with this price tag as my plan is to give this truck to my grandson once he is old enough to drive and is currently 2 years old.
thoughts and suggestions?

"OX" build
That's awesome man! Yes, you can find a lot of good info on:
http://www.4btswaps.com/forum/forum.php#/?_k=iqma8h
I did a lot of research into this when I was planning it for my jeep build. A few things about the 4BT:
- most of them are used in genset and pump applications. You specifically need to find one that was used in a vehicle like a bread van. If you cannot do this, you at least need the injection pump from a vehicle application. Static applications only have "idle-full load" throttle where vehicle applications have a linear throttle.
- all of the injection pump options are good. No bad years like the 6bt, just depends on what you want. They have P-pump models that sell for a lot of money but the VE models do well too. There are newer common rail models as well.
- the 4BT is a heavy pig for its output. Most models are right around 100hp or a touch over.
- A newer B3.3 is a much better choice for power and weight if you can find one.
- transmission I don't think should choose the G56. It is a beautiful transmission, but in terms of drivability you will be taking such a huge step backwards that there's no reason to spend so much money on a trans you won't be able to enjoy to its fullest. I would either pick a more serious engine like the B3.3 or a 6BT or choose a cheaper/easier trans. Maybe a Ford (I know...) ZF trans would be good. The NV5600 is the best bolt-on trans but everyone and their grandmother will murder you in cold blood for one of those. NV4500's are easier to come by and will do the same job.
- 4BT's rattle like CRAZY next to their 6-cylinder brothers. There is a motor mount used in bread vans called a "King" mount using a hydraulic damper inside, like the hydraulic cab mounts the newer trucks have. Those are supposed to make a big difference.
Let me know if you have questions I'm excited! Power to you man! That forum is a big help.

Re: "OX" build
I just watched an episode of "Dirt Every Day" on YouTube. (Great series that I highly recommend!). Cummins is coming out with a crate "repower" line. Check it out. https://cumminsengines.com/repower and watch the episode of Dirt Every Day when the put the engine in the TJ named "Tube Sock".

Sorry,
Their claimed 267 ft lbs of torque falls wayyyyy short of what we need in a PW. Hell, the 2.8 L DuraMax diesel has 369 ft lbs. I think 500 ft lbs is ideal for our trucks. More than the 6.4 Hemi but less than the 6.7 CTD.
Maybe some of the other ones they are gonna release after the 2.8L will be better suited for our HD trucks.

Meh. The one they already put in the HD Rams is probably the ideal one.TwinStick wrote:https://cumminsengines.com/repower

Re: "OX" build
As much as I would love to see a 4bt swap I reall really think doing a 5.9 cummins would be a far better option in terms of reliability and parts and mostly the conversion process. Anything from a all mechanical 12valve up to the 05/06 5.9s The parts you currently have or have planned would go together far easier with a 6bt. On the other hand it's an original build the way you are looking. Really looking forward to what you do. This sounds exciting
