My 48' PW.

No pics of my regular Hemi 2500 (PW wanna be) I'm in the process of modifying it to be a little more offroad friendly. I picked up a barely used Ram Power Wagon winch, installed a 160a alt, and did a few minor wiring upgrades so far. Future plans include a set of PW axles, OBA system and a small lift

No pics of my 05' Ram Hemi 2500 (non PW) nothing spectacular just a lightly used PW winch, 160a alt, and some minor wiring upgradès.

Hello from SE Washington.

Went up into the hills behind our place for a little shootin. and to try the PW gadgets out.

The shootin' was good and so was the PW. Plans are to run the Back Country Discovery Route in WA and do the Barlow Trail down in OR this year.

I've been wanting one of these for several years and now that it's here, time to use it.

Thanks, its my DD/wheeler/fence puller/log skidding machine. I like my 05' too, but mostly it just sits in the garage because I'm afraid to scratch it.

New 2016 PW

Post by Gator Skin » Sat Jul 16, 2016 11:44 am

New to the forum. Just got a silver 2016 PW. Love it. First thing I did was take off all the decals and digital mud and paint the red grill vanes black so it looks very clean and simple. Then I put on the Truxx 1.5" level kit with BFG KM2 35x12.50's on the stock rims. The they look and fit great. Thought I was done at that point until wife, kids, grandparents complained about it being too high to get in so I finished it off with some amp research retractable steps. They are great and hide perfectly. Looking forward to many years of fun and work with this truck. Especially pumped that I can fit 3 kids in car seats across the back seat.

"Welcome Thread"

Post by yellowranger1 » Tue Jul 19, 2016 12:16 pm

Finally picked up my 16 Blue Streak PW yesterday morning. Drove it home from Idaho (near Boise) straight back to Southern California about 13 hrs. The stock duratracs have a wicked shake from 70mph up to about 80.... Glad they won't be staying too long! Plan is to remove decals and put some 35" ko2 on it. Beyond that, it will get some rock sliders and a bed rack/RTT setup later this year.

I combed the forums here for anything I could soak up on these before purchasing, lots of good info and great member builds on here. Looking forward to getting mine dirty!

Welcome to the Forum; lots of great information here. Enjoy your new truck!

Sorry to hear about the Durashakes; have read several others complain about that. I know a lot of guys that run DuraTracs locally here with very good satisfaction. However, we are in an area 3+ hours from the nearest road with > 55 mph speed limit (almost no chance to ever drive 70 mph, let alone 80 mph) so maybe with our slower speeds guys don't feel the shakes.
Trucks: 2003 4x4 Dodge 3/4 ton, 1972 4x4 Ford 3/4 ton (factory hi-boy), shopping for new Power Wagon (maybe 2024?)

I think whoever mounted the tires was slightly distracted....... Says on the sidewalls max psi is 65, one was at 88, two at 75, and one at 80, so I'm sure it's just a sloppy balance job which is an easy fix, but a nuisance nonetheless! I have a set of brand new 37" ko2 I might try out on this truck. I'm just iffy about the decrease in performance/mpg.

So much for dealer prep that you paid for. :( It's the Mexicans at the factory mounting and balancing the tires. No QC there. :(

Hello Everyone,

I've been using this forum as a resource for about a year and figured it was time to contribute. I picked up my 2016 PW tradesman in January and have about 9000 miles on it. I was ready to get the Laramie edition but couldn't justify the price difference for things that are nice but don't matter that much to me.

So far I have been quite happy, the only things I miss from the higher trim levels are remote start and heated seats. I will probably have the dealer install the remote start next visit but I can live without the heated seats being that I am in Tucson AZ and it never gets very cold.

My reasons for purchasing a PW were several fold. I needed a vehicle that could tow up to 10,000 lbs, I needed a pickup bed for all the Home Depot runs, dump runs, and way to get my atv to the trails. I wanted something that would take me on adventures and not get stuck at the first arroyo crossing (dry river beds to the non desert dwellers). I spend a lot of time exploring in the desert with my wife and son and there is nothing worse than getting most of the way to a destination and having to turn around due to a medium sized obstacle that would stop a regular truck. I also am not at a point in my life where I have the time nor do I feel like modifying a regular truck. I've done that many times and always end up with compromises that diminish the drivability. So far it has accomplished everything I purchased it for without any real hiccups.

Of the 8800 miles 1400 of them have been towing. I twice towed a 19ft toy hauler to Sedona from Tucson and it towed very well, much better than I expected. It pulled the trailer with little effort, merging on to a 75mph freeway was no problem and passing slow moving vehicles was easy. My trailer sits up high due to the flat load bed so it has quite a bit of aerodynamic drag. There is also a lot of elevtion change between Tucson and Sedona with many mountain passes and I still averaged 8.5mpg on the first trip. On the second trip I had the RZR in the toy hauler which added another 1200ish pounds. I still got 8.4mpg. I don't know exactly how much the trailer weighs but I'm guessing around 5500 without the RZR and 6700ish with it.

My daily commute is around 50 miles with mixed city and highway driving and my evic averages around 14.5mpg. I've never cross checked it at the pump because I don't really care, maybe if it was single digit numbers but anything in the teens I'm happy with. We are also fortunate in Tucson to have some of the cheapest fuel in the nation.

It has been very reliable and one of the quietest vehicles I've owned. You can hear the tire hum on the freeway and that's about it. I had it into the dealer recently for a squeak that self healed on the drive to the dealer so I had them rotate the tires while it was there. They also said there was a transmission update that they would perform. It shifts way better with the update, seems to hold gears longer and just make it more driveable in the city. Worth doing if you haven't done it yet.

The only mod I have done so far if the cabin filter mod from Geno's garage.

My biggest complaint is the racket it makes on startup, I can't stand how it sounds like there is an exhaust leak at idle until it warms up. I've compared it to other 6.4 trucks on the lot and the videos posted on this forum and it sound the same so I think it is just they way it is.

That's about all I got at the moment.

Thanks again for all the info.

I apologize if the photos are upside down, they are right side up on my computer and I don't know what I'm doing.
