rust treatment?
rust treatment?
Hey northeast owners, or anywhere were rust is an issue - what are you guys using to protect your frames? I have some minor rusting, and want to wire brush as much as possible, but am on the fence on what to apply over top.

Us folks in Florida love Corrosion X, we use it on anything and everything that gets close to the salt water. It's some awesome stuff. Not sure if you're looking for a more permanant solution but spraying a coat of this on it every now and again will definitely keep it from and stop it from rusting.

I only do what the majority of the 4 voices in my head tell me to. In most cases, I ignore two of them because one doesn't speak English, and I suspect the other is talking to someone else.

I'm going to pull the bed on my 07 once the weather warms up this spring and do the frame. I'm thinking POR15 after blasting.

I use Fluid Film for rust prevention and waterproofing undercarriage parts.

Corrosion x or lps3 for waterproofing, POR15 or Chassis Saver for bare metal or rust

When I got mine new. I had it Ziebert undercoated. Touch it up now with fluid film.

I went with Fluid Film
I have had it a couple of months, so far so good.
If you have an air compressor, THIS kit is hard to beat. Includes everything you'll need to do your whole truck several times over.
The big advantage, to me, is that it can be sprayed pretty much anywhere(Rocker panels, door panels, inside of frame, inside of fenders, etc.). It will somewhat absorb into the metal, preventing corrosion. It will need to be touched-up every year, mainly on areas that are exposed to road-spray, or anywhere it can be rubbed off.

Might check out "Chassis Saver" paint.
Expensive, at ~$100/gal, but supposedly real good.
We covered the new sled trailer in it, top-to-bottom.
Go light on the stuff - if you slap it on real heavy it'll bubble up and won't adhere well to the frame. A light coat, enough to cover everything, is all it needs.
And if you want it off, you'll need to get a grinder out.
Trailer needed some work when we got it, quite a bit of rust on the frame. Ended up replacing and welding in some additional support in some areas due to rust.
5 or 6 gallons to do the entire trailer... a truck shouldn't take more than 1gal.

I have used POR15 in the past alot of prep work!! But it held up great against the New England winters. Oh and wear gloves... I decided to be a dumb ass and didn't... Took WEEKS for it to come off my hands
