Power wagon rims
I have been looking for genuine power wagon rims for months now for a good price. I think I found some.
http://detroit.craigslist.org/mcb/pts/4881303349.html
Can someone on here confirm that they are genuinely power wagon rims? I can compare pictures but that is about it.
Thanks

Re: Power wagon rims
Comparing yours side by side they look identical, are there subtle differences I'm not seeing?cruz wrote:Don't think so, my 2005 wheels ...

Re: Power wagon rims
Those are not. They are the regular 3/4 and 1 ton wheels.

Re: Power wagon rims
Unfortunately those are not PW rims. The spokes on a normal 3/4 ton rim are a lot narrower than those of the PW. Take a look at the size and shape of the hole between the spokes of the different rims. PW's end in a radius and are more triangle shaped, where normal rims are more of a trapezoid and have flat at the hub.
However the price is still pretty good, and besides the PW wheels they are my favorite factory wheel.

Re: Power wagon rims
OK, this makes sense. I kept flipping the pages back and forth on my phone and they looked identical. It wasn't until they were put into the same post did I see the differences.TrueCowboy426 wrote:Unfortunately those are not PW rims. If I could tell there were in perfect shape I would buy them anyways. But judging how much brake dust is on there I would guess they are pitted a little bit so I have to decide how much they are really worth. I may try and see how much I can get them for knowing they are not actual power wagon rims.

Re: Power wagon rims
A couple of years ago I needed another wheel. Found a new one on EBAY for about $140? if I remember. Not a P.W. wheel but it is used in auto repair business. That looks like one. Works fine with correct backspace. It was just an aluminum replacement for 2500 2005-2009 trucks. Price seems fair.

Re: Power wagon rims
I know it is a good price, but I also saw a set of the same rims that looked brand new for $500, no polishing required and more importantly they were from a southern truck so no salt exposure.flattire wrote:A couple of years ago I needed another wheel. That was what I was thinking people would point out. I didn't know if they had them or not and I figured someone would be able to tell by that.Throttle 8 wrote:Not a PowerWagon rim----notice they do not have the internal beadlock.

Re: Power wagon rims
Thanks! Now I at least know what to look for both inside the rim and out. I have been looking since September and this is the first local set I thought that I had found.fbenross wrote:just for info here is a picture of the bead lips. Re: Power wagon rims
The bead lip on your PW wheel & the one in the craigslist add picture are the same(different wheel/same bead lips), I have spare 2500/3500(SW) aluminum wheels & PW wheels & their identicle bead lips. That's why I bought them, they're a better alternative to mount your spare wheel than the steel. So besides backspacing & appearance, what are the differences?fbenross wrote:just for info here is a picture of the bead lips. Re: Power wagon rims
The original power wagon wheels were a forged aluminum, vs a cast aluminum, like the rest of the dodge fleet. A stronger wheel, and that was one of their selling points. At some point, the started to make them in China, vs the U.S., and lost some of the quality. I think it was '08 they changed the wheels. I know I specifically looked for and found my spares from an '07.

Re: Power wagon rims
Mmmm...I still think they are nothing too special. I'd rather have some "Hutchies"! I'll sell X1 PW wheel, 2013 new take-off I bought from Dave'r(BigRed2007). Looks like I'm not using X6 like I thought...

Re: Power wagon rims
I knew they were Alcoa's!! I couldn't remember the name. Maybe nothing too special, but a real good, quality wheel built to last. And light. I'd love some hutchinsons too, but what a weight penalty. I just can't justify that cost and weight!

And iirc sometime in '12 they switched again and started making them elsewhere and no longer sourced them from Alcoa.RustyPW wrote:Yea, in '08, the started to make them in china.
