Aftermarket wheels for 2014+PW

Hi all, new here but have owned my 2014 PW for about 4 months now and have around 12k miles on the truck. I have had quite a bit of problems with the duratrac tires that come stock and I am thinking of getting either toyo mt or nitto trail grapplers in 10ply. I am hoping to go a little bigger and would like to get aftermarket wheels. Thinking of 295/70/r17 or 285/75/r17. So my question is what kind of offset and backspacing for an aftermarket wheel should I be looking at? And will I still be able to disconnect the sway bar and articulate the truck without damaging anything?

BTW love the truck, it's like driving a big 4 wheeler and just won't get stuck!!!

Welcome to the PWR. The only wheel that I'm considering right now is one of the AEV Wheels that should be released early 2015. The AEV Rim is a 17x8.5 with a +27mm offset while the Power Wagon Rim is a 17x8 with a +38mm offset.

Are you wanting aftermarket wheels mainly for looks? Cause those size tires will fit perfectly on the stockers.

Also, what issues are you having with the duratracs?

Yeah wheels just for looks, but would like a little more ground clearance. I have had 3 flats now within 2 weeks. 1 tire was torn and had to be replaced (under warranty). 2 tires for sure we're punctured by rocks and 1 was maybe a metal culvert (but likely a rock), and all 3 tires were torn between tread. So I just think these tires are weak for a heavy truck and I want to get 10 plys, also very hard to keep balanced. Even more so than the toyo Mt's and cooper sst's I have had on other trucks.

I put 35x12.5x17 Toyo RT on stockers and its great. No rubbing no probs at all. Didn't bother the 6.4 at all power wise. I like the tire its quiet and looks tough. Mine is currently in getting a new PCM. Several of the folks at dealership have commented to the effect that Power Wagons should come w/ 35's...

If you must have another set of wheels, consider the Hummer H2s. You'll need to have the hub hole bored to fit the PW hubs, but they are 17x8.5 with an internal bead lock similar to the factory PW wheels. Don't remember the offset, but they work fine on 3Gs, including mine with 35" Toyo AT-IIs. My factory wheels have a set of 35" Toyo MTs that I ran for about 35,000 miles with zero issues. I think I actually prefer the MTs to the ATs, but Toyo has a new tire out that splits the difference in tread patterns. Whatever you get, make sure it's Load Range E.

The +38mm offset is for the 03-13 trucks. It looks like the offset on the new 14's is even greater. I measured the backspace on my '14 2500 wheels and it was around 7" as opposed to the 6.25" backspace that Ram has used on the previous generation trucks. I haven't checked and actual '14 PW wheel but I suspect that it will be the same offset as the standard 2500's.

I have not seen a Power Wagon with an 18" wheel yet. I was under the impression that all PW wheels were the same 17" for 2014.

My response may have been marginal. What I was saying is I have seen some of the new HD's with 18" wheels, but I've only seen the new Power Wagon's with the 17" rim, which I thought has been the same for all 4th Gen Ram Power Wagon's (I don't know much about the 3rd Gen Wheel, but I think they are pretty much the same).

They are a different wheel from '14 up, with an integrated center, vs the plastic hub on the old ones. A little different in looks too, comparatively. I'll have to check the backspacing on these, vs the old ones. I have 315/70/17 BFG AT's on the stock wheels, as I plan to powder coat the '07 wheels and run these as my winter ones. I also have a set of H2 wheels I need to open the hub on, for my MT's for the summer. And no, no PW comes stock with 18" wheels.

You're right. I forgot about the new intergraded center. Good call!

I have a set of 20" black wheels that I took off my diesel, put Method 17" wheels on with 0mm offset/4.75" backspace. They stick out a little more than what others are running on the newer trucks but my tires don't rub the radius arms, which is just as important to me. I used a heat gun to massage the fender liner enough to clear the tires (37" toyo MTs) and trimmed a little plastic on the flares, but it clears good now. If I stayed with a 35" tire then I would definitely not have any rubbing anywhere. So one thing to keep in mind is that while the higher backspace is good for clearing the fender, you are probably going to rub the radius arms, and so far there is no option to do anything about that. Clearancing the fender is easy and free. Just my 2 cents.

I haven't measured the backspace on a '14+ PW wheel but it should be the same as the 2500's which have a 7" backspace. That makes it tougher to find a wheel that keeps the tires tucked in a bit although a little less backspace will help with tire to radius arm clearance.

Here are 17x9's with 5.75" backspace on my '14 2500. With the 37" Toyo's they just barely rub the radius arm at full steering lock. I did have to trim the flares a little as well as do little work to the inner liner.

Pretty much. So in the picture, you will see a small channeled portion of the fender liner that runs from top to bottom, extending into the wheel well about 3/4"-1" more than the rest of the liner. It is on the outer portion of the wheel well liner. I am borrowing the heat gun pics from Skyd Ram because it makes it easy to see.

You only need to concentrate on the bottom 6-8 inches really. Once you do it, if you look at the fender from the side, you will no longer see that portion of the fender liner pushing forward towards the tire, but rather the wheel well will appear to be a smooth curve conforming to the fender flares and not protruding in on the tire. Trimming of the flare is also required, as it pushes forward at the very bottom.

You can mount a 37" inch tire without this, but it will likely hit the flare/liner when turning without this modification.

I think you would be fine with stockers, assuming you can get the 37" tire of your choice to fit the wheel. At full lock, you are going to have the same slight rubbing issue as all the rest of us 2014+ owners with any 37" I am afraid (unless you get a lift kit that accommodates for it). If the tires I wanted would have fit on a 17x8 stocker , I would have stuck with the stock wheels.
