fan clutch noise

I see now ... I had an '07 1500 and it had an electric fan for the A/C condenser located to the right and a clutch driven fan for the radiator that was center/left of center. The condenser wasn't in front of the radiator and it had its own electric fan. The clutch driven fan was there to pull air through the radiator.

In my 2013 everything's stacked. There's an electric fan right against the radiator with a shroud around it that funnels back over the clutch driven fan located directly behind the electric fan.

That definitely looks like a different setup than what the 3 has. My setup sounds identical to your old 1500. Do you have a 5.7?

Speaking of belt tensioners and pullys, does anybody make a high quality superior replacement other than OEM or off the shelf parts store kind ? Maybe something that a High Performance Hemi builder would use.

Hey Cruz... I'm not sure. To be quite honest, there wouldn't be much that was special about a spring tensioner (they all apply a similar amount of tension when buying a stock replacement). If you went really high performance, or added a blower, you'd go with a tensioner that had static tension (use of a screw), which would probably be mounted on a front motor plate. For the most part, I consider the spring tensioners to be mostly the same (bearing quality would be the biggest variable). OEM is almost always a safe bet. In my case, I'm going to scope out what Rock Auto has and choose from there.

The '07 1500 4x4 I had before my current truck (2013 PW) had the 4.7L Magnum V8. My PW has the 5.7L Hemi of course ...

The pullys seem to have a history of bearing failure, usually at the least opportune time. Although they are fairly cheap, available just about everywhere, and are not too hard to replace, they usually tear up the belt at the same time . It would be nice to find ones with higher quality bearings. The two pullys and a belt should be in spare part kit if you spend any amount of time in BFE.

I always carry tools, but when I change out my belt and tensioner, I am going to keep the old ones in the truck as spares. I think that one of the other troubles people have is that modern belts don't show cracks like old ones did, so it's not easy to tell when it's time to replace them. I, as a rule of thumb, try to replace it every 50-75k miles, no matter what. It's a $20 insurance policy in my book.

In theory, removing the engine driven fan and replacing it with an e-fan should remove some stress on the belt, increasing its life.

The dealer is going to replace my fan clutch but its on backorder for who knows how long. Its really killing my gas milage

This electric fan is an awsome upgrade looks clean and I'd imagine it will extend water pump life also. Look at how much room you have now! Lol

Idler pulleys will fail from water contamination, the lower get wet the most, Gates makes good quality replacement parts, at least as good as OEM, everything else is, for the most part, is not as good.
