'06 Regular Cab Laramie

Post by ACRucrazy » Fri Dec 13, 2013 12:23 am

I picked this up over the summer. All stock, never wheeled or used off road which was a plus for me. It has some miles on it but the exterior was pretty nice, it's never seen a winter or salt so that is welcome in my area. The heated leather seats and dual zone climate control are also welcome in the cold winter months!

Image

Buuuuut... because of that the all the lights are faded/cracked etc.

Image

Sooo... new ones! Cheap eBay headlights.

295/65/18 Duratracs on 18x9 Method Standards. Wen't with 18s because of the load rating E, over D on the 17s which was a requirement and I didn't really want to go much bigger than stock for mileage, cost etc. They are ~ 1/2" taller than stock size and almost 1/2" wider.

Image

Bilstein 5100s all around to replace the stockers. Fronts will get installed this weekend.

Image

That is all for now. I still have a pile of parts and more on order. I hope I can have it back on the road here in the next few weeks. It's not going to be too crazy, but who can live with just stock?

Nice choice on the rims they look awesome. I also like the smoked head lights and the led tail lights. Nice truck.
No place I would rather be than on top of a mountain in Colorado in the Summer time.

Great find & nice upgrades. Are you going to pull the mud-flaps off?

Thanks! I haven't decided. They were on the truck when I bought it, but I want to see what it looks like out of the garage. I may end up ordering Bushwackers, I was holding off until I put the new wheels/tires on.

I'd love to have a single cab Power Wagon. Great looking truck.

Nice find and a nice truck. Would love to find one of those. Keep up the good work on the upgrades. I really need to buy all new lights for my 05 PW.

It's an auto. It would be sweet if it had the G56, but clean original regular cabs are slim pickins. That and to find an white with heated leather I got everything I wanted in the truck minus the trans figured to just go with it.

Some guys.......

Some guys have all the luck.

Congrats! Nice rig!
2010 Ram Power Wagon. dual exhaust, CAI, 87mm moes throttle body, diablo intune, spyntec manual hub kit, icon control arms, top gun customz panhard adjustable bar, 2 inch coil spacer. Stock shocks. 35x12.50x17 general grabber red letter out, amp power steps. Electric fan. Top gun customz +2 sway bar end links.

My absolute favorite things I've put on thus far, the amp power steps & those icon control arms (tire rub drives me nuts). That & every performance bolt on I've put on I freaking love, but if I had to choose it would be those steps (gotta bad leg & the steps are a major help) & icon control arms.

Buy the right parts the first time! Because the job is done, when it's done right!

Honestly the only other truck I can see myself ever buying is a reg cab ram 2500 power wagon or reg cab cummins. Seriously jealous.

Last night I did the wonderful sparkplug replacement. It was about the same experience I had on my 04 Hemi, pain the ass to remove, easy to install.

Current pic from yesterday.

The ARB bumper I ordered in early December kept getting put on back order with dates changed. I questioned if I would ever see it. I hated to do it, but I canceled the order in March after more than 3 months of waiting.

I am trying to decide if I should just have the stock bumpers and side steps blasted and line-x'ed or spend the 3 grand or whatever it's going to cost for some white knuckle sliders and aftermarket bumpers.

Go aftermarket ... The stock ones fold like a wet rag if you even bump into something. I went with the Trail Ready Pre-Runner Guard front bumper, but there are some other good options as well. I believe there's some work being done to design an aftermarket bumper specifically for the PW. Maybe wait and see what that looks like.

Can you weld? Have a buddy that can? Sliders aren't that difficult to fab up if they are weld on vs the stock bolt on type.

Bumpers are expensive. No way around that unless you are a talented fabricator. Cost and style wise, I chose the Backcountry rear bumper. Front bumpers are a whole nuther topic - I haven't seen one yet that really suits me.

I have been slowly working on the interior.
I pulled the seats to put new foam and leather bottom cover on driver side.

Both seats were just filthy from the previous owner. Like practically black. Bottoms and backs of both seats. I spent a whole day cleaning the leather and I am very surprised at how good they turned out. They look almost new! When I get time I will clean the cloth portions of the seats.

Image
Image

Since the seats were out, I used this time to pull the carpet and clean it. Pressure washers are awesome. Weathertech floor mats are on order.

Since the carpet was out, I used this time to dampen the entire floor with about 32 square feet of sound deadener.

I also spent most of the day yesterday detailing the door panels. I removed them from the truck and scrubbed the hell out of them as the tops, arm rests and grab handles were just as dirty and black as the seats and the bottoms were kicked to hell and dirty. They look great now! I also cleaned the caked on blackness of dirt on the weather stripping in the door window seals and the kick panels for the truck.

I also bought the OEM navigation dash bezel for the truck so I could install an aftermarket Double Din Nav unit with kit.

Next, more cleaning of the interior and other items on the to do list!

Thanks! It feels good to get goin on the interior. It's something I do to most well used vehicles I buy, give it a good cleaning. Totally transforms the whole vehicle. It's crazy how much attention it's drawing in my driveway. I had 2 people stop and check it out while I was working on it, totally PW nuts. One has an older (62?) he is restoring now. Local kid slows down every time he drives by in his white 2g Ram, totally digs the truck. I can't wait to have this back on the road.

Still debating on what I am going to do for bumpers. Kind of holding tight to see how the backwoods bumpers pan out. Putting the stock back on would be the financially responsible thing to do. Maybe I should sell the stock wheels with tires to fund that project... but I really want to hang on to them for some reason.

Image

I also forgot to mention buddy and I replaced the front calipers, pads and rotors. Stock calipers were draggin pretty good.

Yesterday I swapped out the solenoid pack and filters with a new one from the dealer.
That fixed the limp mode and TCM failure CEL that has been on.
Next up to dig into the rear end and see if i can fix the rear locker light/sway bar disconnect issue, order some carli ball joints, some bumpers and rock rails.
