New Sway bar disconnect.....

Post by PowerWagonP » Mon Sep 09, 2019 12:49 pm

I was heading to my favourite fishing lake on the wknd and truck was flexing nicely when I heard a pop. Looked around and looked like it was judt the tire rubbing in wheel well. Kept driving and hit the trail to the lake.
I then looked around truck and the sway bar in one side snapped in half, not the end link but actual bar, how is this possible. I had to tow my trailer home next day, 3 hrs,but truck drove fine.
I thought I could weld it and put a sleeve around then weld that but my Dodge mechanic buddy says it is spring steel and it will just break. Any ideas. Thought I could just buy the one bar, drivers side, that goes into motor but local dodge dealer says the sway bar is discontinued, wtf
It's a 2011, my 3rd Wagon, still have a 09....

I just searched one of the biggest salvage yards in my area, no dice. I'll let you know if I run across any in my searches for you.

It must have been CONNECTED - there wouldn't be any stress on it in a disconnected state.

It was connected, in 4 low, going slow about to go down the hill in pic. This is where it happened. Going to stop at a machine shop tomorrow and see if they csn do anything. Didn't really notice it towing and I was driving through a windy highway, guess the one side connected helps. Didn't think these things were made in China....
Thanks for looking out for used ones. I searched a bit. Found some new ones but around $950, no thanks

No problemImage...and $950 seems like a steal considering the entire bar new would run close to $3,000.

$950 is a steal. New lists for $2,700. I got a new smart bar for $1,800.

Go to the dealer and get the part number for your smart bar. Use that number in the link below.

I would clamp the smart bar module out of the way and get a Thuren sway bar. It would be $520 for your truck:

You have the 5 link front suspension like the 3G's. I bet it will bolt up. BUT the electronics might be different. You can swap out the actuators from one bar to another. It's only 3 bolts.

If you can't make the electronics work you can go with a manual disconnect for it to make it work too.
