Hi from Central Virginia!

Post by mikejr » Sun Aug 25, 2019 8:51 am

Hey guys,

Long time Jeep guy, just upgraded from a 2015 JKUR to a 2018 Power Wagon. It's like a bigger swiss army knife, and a nice balance between luxury and capability.

We have a farm on the edge of West Virginia, and the only way to reach the majority of a acreage is by fording a 20-30in river. I'll need to take a chainsaw and widen a few of the old logging roads that have narrowed over the years but I'm looking forward to getting it into the woods. And just in time for deer season to.

Do any of you perform regular water crossings? Any issues w/ the diff breathers being too low, or fan spraying water into the airbox? Alternator looks to be mounted high so that's a plus.

- Mike

Sorry about the threadjack, mikejr

Welcome! PWs are good for a bunch of water, I think 24" IIRC. Of course, read your manual. It may depend on the year. Some of us do it occasionally. It's not my favorite way to abuse it, but I haven't had any issues.

Raising the vents is a good idea. One of these days I will do it....

My lower idler pulley don't like water too much. I keep a spare in the PW.

Thanks guys! Water crossings for me aren't so much for fun as they're necessary to get to the majority of our farmland. The 2018 is "rated" for 30in, same as the JKUR I replaced. The JKs I've had never had any issues (the 2007 didn't like the initial plunge and would try to stall out) - and I only need to get across maybe 4-6 times per year. Being able to get tractor parts and deer stands across is the primary use case.

From what I can tell, the diff lines seem to be high enough, unsure about the auto trans vent (first auto in forever), but 30in *should* be the max depth I'm crossing unless the water's running a little high. What's going on w/ the idlers?
