Unsolicited Advice on Tires

Some free advice: Get out your wallet and pony up for Toyos. They will be round, just the way you'd expect them to be. You will not save money buying cheap tires, they are cheap for a reason. Yeah yeah yeah, I know, Cooper has a good reputation...enjoy the three pounds of lead they're about to stick to the inside of your wheels (plural...times four). I'm sure someone will be along to tell me their cheap tires are great. Well, someone has to win the lottery. How good is your luck?

I have had two sets of the Nitto Trail Grapplers and starting a set of the Nitto Ridge Grapplers. Would definitely recommend both.

And why does Interco want them only on 10 inch wide rims?

Before I put a swamper on my truck, I would try a “normal” extreme radial tire like this yokahama. But I do mostly dd’ing with mine rig.

The most bad ass off road tires I ever had were Denman Ground Hawgs in 17/40-15 size back in the 80s.
They were awesome off road in the mud. They rode surprisingly good on the highway. I was even surprised at how well they did in sand.
You could, however, hear them coming from 2 miles down the road, but you couldn't hurt them.

Unknowingly, I ran over a 16 inch long 1 inch wide screw driver someone dropped on the highway.
It went straight into the middle of the tire and started making a thumping noise as the tire rotated, so I pulled over to see what was the cause of the noise.

I saw it and immediately freaked because I had no spare, was 40 miles from anywhere, it was the middle of the night, and knew I had to pull it out.
This is all pre-cell phone era. I pulled it out like I was extracting an arrow from a fallen comrade. As soon as I got it out, I started looking at the hole in the tire. You could tell where the puncture was, but it wasn't losing any air. In fact, it never lost air. I still had those same 4 tires on the truck when I sold it 25,000 miles later.... and never patched.

I miss those tires. I was sad to see they are nothing but history now.

I had 38" Ground Hogs on my 1976 Chevy. The noise would put you to sleep in about 30 minutes of driving. They were a great tire off road.

The IROKS weight 75 lbs. I've had one set of Cooper MT's and two sets of Toyo MT's on the PW. Just looking for something different.

I believe the only 17" IROK Radial less than 80 lbs is the 33"

I have 37” bias iroks on a 1 ton swapped Jeep TJ. I do drive it on the road some, but I wouldn’t want to daily drive it. I’ve heard the radials are a lot friendlier but no first hand experience with them. FWIW the bias iroks are ridiculously loud and flat spot if they sit for a while, but they’re monsters off-road
