True story... but the op is wondering how they work as steps.

Haha- Nicely put Will.
Step stool plus sliders acting as a step should allow my flatland parents and in-laws (from Tallahasee- Will I think you are from there) all over 70, to climb up into the truck rather than me picking them up. if they can’t then we have to take an additional car, 6 seats was a factor in the PW decision.
I am sold on the top plate and extra inch. Going to order shortly to hopefully coincide with the trucks arrival.
Thanks everyone for the info.

The dealer did mine, for a fairly small fee that got rolled into the financing. Not that you can’t do it, but they are big and heavy.FLtoCOTransplant wrote: ↑Fri May 17, 2019 11:28 amGoing to order shortly to hopefully coincide with the trucks arrival.

Re: WK Sliders - To diamond plate or not?
Mine are 1" wider than the standard model. The back 'kickout' section extends about 1/2" or so more than my rear tire sidewalls. These are 35" Ridge Grapplers on factory 2015 wheels.Lazarus wrote: ↑Mon May 13, 2019 10:54 pmCan you post a pic of yours? I’d like to see what they look like with the inch added on before I order mine.m25443 wrote: ↑Mon May 06, 2019 1:10 amI have the full length diamond plate and prefer it. You can unbolt the diamond plate of you decide to take it off. Or you can get partial length diamond plate.
The thing that I found most useful as a step is to have them made 1"wider. Then they really work well as a step.
So, I have the 1" extra width with full diamond plate and after a week in Moab, if I had to buy another set, I'd buy the exact same way.
The pics are hard to get in good perspective, because changing the angle when looking at them just a little bit makes them appear to stick out more/less. I actually prefer the little bit of extra protection for my rear tires/wheels when rock crawling, like the week at PWIM. They got scraped up a bit (no dents at all) and when I got home I wiped them with a dry rag and spray painted the scraped areas with a $6 can of black rust converter and they look like new. Five minutes and I was done with both sides. Perfect enough match, color wise.

As for steps, I use them every time I get in. Never had a slip at all, even when wet/muddy, so no plans to put any non-skid tape or Line-X type stuff on them.

Re: WK Sliders - To diamond plate or not?
I chose the thicker walled tubing, diamond plate & factory powder coating. They work great for steps. You get used to them being narrow vs a real step. I've got over 53,000 miles on mine and would do it the same again. A little bit of brown (rust?) discoloration around the bolts that are holding down the diamond plates now. Doesn't bother me... much. I have scrapped up the bottoms of them. Hit them with a little black spray paint on the bottom and you cannot even tell.

Re: WK Sliders - To diamond plate or not?
Heads up 2019 owners-just heard from John and Natalie at WK and the 2019s have a noise and vibration damper which interferes with their front mounting plate. They are working on adjusting their design but unless one wants to move the damper and void that part of their warranty (any comments on perceived impact would be appreciated) 2019 owners will have to wait since they do not have an ETA for the redesign.

Re: WK Sliders - To diamond plate or not?
I am a 2019 owner and just received my WK sliders yesterday. Went to install them today and can confirm that there is definitely some sort of module mounted to the frame right where the front mounting plate should go. I’ll have to give them a call Monday morning.
Re: WK Sliders - To diamond plate or not?
For those that are seeing some occasional brown rust on your WK sliders, don't mess with black paint. Buy a can of rust converter. It sprays on (or brushes on if you buy the liquid version) and converts the rust to a semi-gloss black. Much better than painting over the rust.

I *may* try the rust converter at come point - but the rough rust surface has really eliminated all slipping for now...m25443 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 23, 2019 10:02 pmFor those that are seeing some occasional brown rust on your WK sliders, don't mess with black paint. Maybe it's time to drop a few grand on them and get them chromed!!!

Re: WK Sliders - To diamond plate or not?
My sliders showed up right before hunting season . 400+ lbs of diamond plated protection to be installed post September. Natalie at WK did a great job of communicating through the modification process for the 2019s.

Re: WK Sliders - To diamond plate or not?
For those debating diamond plate, there is news! I took my truck to WK today to have John see if he could fit their sliders to my '05 with the dual house batteries already bolted to the frame. Answer is yes if they delete one mount on that (passenger) side of the truck. But that's not the news. John said they can put diamond plated wherever you want it, i.e. front doors, rear doors, no doors, rear step, full length, whatever. The news is that they now offer dimple punched top plates in whatever configuration you want. Holes are maybe 1-1/4" ID with raised lip from the press for traction, hole for drainage. I saw some sample plates in the white but didn't think to take pics. That is probably what I will order on mine, likely full length for muddy boots in the marsh.
For any CTD guys on here, they are also building CTD sliders with five mounting tubes instead of the normal four. This to handle the extra weight of those pigs.

Re: WK Sliders - To diamond plate or not?
dimple punched plates sounds even gnarlier then diamond plate...
patience was key here as this is definitely how ill be ordering my WK sliders.

Agree w PWJouster. But my diamond plate has never proven slippery or problematic on my rock rails in response to OP quer

Re: WK Sliders - To diamond plate or not?
Finally installed the sliders this past weekend. Passenger side was smooth, driver side was a pain as everyone has mentioned. Did it myself with the help of a floor jack and two stands.
Overall after a couple of days with them I am happy with them as steps and so are the kids. Glad I went with the 2x4 option and full plate. here are two different views after install.
