2018 PW Front Bumper

Post by Kellerpowerwagon » Wed Dec 05, 2018 5:08 pm

Hey folks. I have a 2008 PW that I use at my ranch, my son is getting my 2014 PW for Christmas, and my 2018 is getting a few goodies added before I take delivery from the dealer here in DFW (Texas). My question is:

Are any of you running heavy duty front bumpers that didn't require you to relocate the winch? If so, what are they and how do you like them? I really like the looks of the modular AEV front bumper but don't like the thought of relocating the M12000. Having the winch mounted between the frame is the best place for it. Thanks in advance for your feedback.

Thuren bumper. Not sure if it’s “Ranch Hand” enough for a Texan, though.

In all seriousness, between the frame rails on these monsters is where it should stay, you are right on.
2018 Flame Red, Moon Roof, Dual Alternators, Ram Boxes sadly Ram ran out of, Luxo Package with 8.4 UConnect, Enter and Go with remote start, Auto Wipers and Lights. Added missing skids and White Knuckle sliders. 35" BFG KM3s. Procal and Warn wireless remote for winch.

I pick up my Thuren bumper in 2 weeks. I'm debating having a pushbar of some kind added before I have it powdercoated.

I tried. Not worth his time, lol. And I totally don't blame him. But i did just this morning find someone who did what I'm thinking. White one is the idea, grey one is mine with the grill I have that I wouldn't want to block.ImageImage

The center is narrow so the bull bar looks a little weird. Maybe consider tying in the outers.

Marcus's orginal bar design would work well with a Thuren Bumper. He never finished those ends, but there is one laying in my shed. Nice and tight. With the extra space on the Thuren Bumper, it should work. I'd talk to Marcus.

Na, I'm kinda done waiting. Thuren bumper is already paid for and I pick up the 14th. Only decision left is bars or no bars and what type.

Ah yes, you said that, I need to pay more attention  You could just have them weld the side pieces to the center section and make the bumper one piece, then your options are limitless.

I was thinking the same thing, the center section I made might actually go nicely on that.

For general info, it should be understood that no push bar / bull bar added onto a bumper will ever be as stout as a bumper that is designed from the beginning to integrate that geometry. Welding onto a plate is not on the same level is deeply integrating the cattle guard.

To answer the OP. The only options (that I know of) currently available that are made for the powerwagon and dont require relocating the winch are Kinzer, 775 fab, Aluminess, Thuren and Addictive Desert Designs. A ranch hand can be modified to work with the winch in the stock location.

The Thuren is a bit ugly IMHO and not integrating the front parking sensors is a tad lazy, too. It’s nice to see other options out there, however, so good on him for putting another choice to market.

Actually there are a few, however, they are all ugly as shizzle. AEV hasn't because really, the front sensors were an option and didn't seem to pop up everywhere until the 2017 when I think they've become standard. My 2015 Laramie doesn't have them, but a friends 2015 Laramie does, but he also has the cargo cam. I see the front sensors on almost all the new trucks.

Seriously though, learn to park :p

But who has integrated it? Not even AEV has.
Those front parking sensors suck anyway. Go off in the rain and offroad at unusual times. I never hit shit before without em and now I'll have a stout bumper. Sooooo meh. Won't miss em.

To heck with front park sensors. I reverse park almost everywhere I go anyway. My rear park sensors have been dead for a while, I never rely on them so I doubt I'll ever try too hard to get them fixed. Back-up camera is the bees knees, 3G owners get your salt ready to throw.

Isnt that the point of a bumper, to bump into stuff. When you feel the bump, stop, that will be your sensor.

Exactly. I reverse park and have better visibility anyway when doing so. Two things id remove from my PW. Front park sensors and the stupid cargo camera. Park sensors I'm removing. Cargo camera isn't worth the effort obviously...
