The new sway bar will have to be programmed to the truck before it will work properly, so don't think it's defective if it doesn't work right out of the box.

I know when the dealer put tow mirrors on my truck when I was buying it they had to be programmed too.

When I put tow mirrors on my 08 PW. It was plug and play.

Any module changed on the CAN needs to be introduced with a handshake. Tow mirrors are not on the CAN in 2008, but for 2016 with memory seats, pedals and mirrors, I can see the BCM needing to be informed of the changes.

2006 and newer PW's have the SmartBar tied into the CAN system.

I installed my new smartbar. It was plug and play. It didn't need the hand shake. Plug it in and everything works. My lockers lock up faster now.

That's great news! I'm actually glad I was wrong about this one, so you don't have to give anymore money to the stealership.
