Warn Wireless Remote Issues

Post by FordyceCreekTrail » Wed Apr 18, 2018 9:23 am

So really needed my winch the other day and again the stupid Warn wireless remote did not work, in 90 MPH wind and I chunked it across the driveway. I called Warn and they said to ask for a replacement. Also confirming it works fine with our winches. But not sure if they are just BS ing me. Does anyone else have one and does it choose when it wants to work like mine did. Mine worked about 30% of the time.
2018 Flame Red, Moon Roof, Dual Alternators, Ram Boxes sadly Ram ran out of, Luxo Package with 8.4 UConnect, Enter and Go with remote start, Auto Wipers and Lights. Added missing skids and White Knuckle sliders. 35" BFG KM3s. Procal and Warn wireless remote for winch.

I have seen issues when the batteries are cold. When it's below freezing, you will have better luck with Lithium Energizer Ultimate batteries...
We all keep our remotes in the trucks - the batteries don't warm up much, inside the remote, inside our cabs, even after a couple of hours.

From the web:
Alkaline
Temperature-wise, they’ll be pretty good down to about 0°F. But…go BELOW zero (-17C) and their useful life is decreased by about 60%. They can also sit unused for up to decade and still provide useful power. The downside…they’ve been known to leak on occasion…whether used or not. Some users refer to them as “alkaleaks”.

Lithium Energizer Ultimate Lithium AA
Lithium AA won’t offer the identical lasting power as an alkaline AA. BUT, its operating temperature is good to -40°F! — which happens to be the same temperature in Celsius! Shelf life is still good for ten years, and even though SOME of their resources are robbed once temps go sub-zero, it’s only around 20%.

BTW - I always keep my wired remote in the truck too

Thing is we had no winter this year. Had to flip a Chia Pet( Kia thing) back over blocking the road today. Guess the dog jumped in her lap and she hit the cliff. Flipping cars back over with the Power Wagon never gets old. creeeeek..........Shusplammmmmmm! You guys with good, boring drivers in your areas are missing out.

I have the 1st generation of the remote. The only issues I've had was a dead battery about 2 yrs ago.
I keep the oem controller behind the seat for back up.

Warn is very good to deal with. I have both the old style and newstyle winch control. They always work, not sure I Have even replaced the batteries...

Just an update I never did. Took awhile but Warn sent me a completely new wireless remote. And it is absolutely flawless. So there was definitely something wrong. And they did not fix it and return it, so not something simple like battery. My only complaint is I wish the time out period was longer. Seems like every time you go to winch again someone is standing there waiting on you and you are like, ya, ya have to press the 2 buttons for awhile and get it back on.
