Wow! Makes me wonder how we ever survived back in the old days with a 60 amp alternator and a single battery. :o

Survived? Not well. I stalled my engine so many times back in the day I lost track, trashed batteries, trashed the cheap winch motors of the time, spent endless extra time winching waiting to build back juice..........And my personal favorite I had to hike out with a dead battery to recharge while tied to a tree on the side of a mountain.............Oh my, the good old days.....

I was just gonna say... but FordyceCreekTrail beat me to it. I've had old cars with small alternators and batteries. And yeah, you'd get stranded.

I said they were the “old days”, not the “good old days”. :secret:

So,
I have purchased all the parts as listed from this forum , but are there any pictures or youtube videos of what an actual powerwagon dual alternator setup looks like? Thanks in advance for your help.

I could post a few photos of my stock set up.

I have dual alternators, but I would have rather had a higher power single and an air compressor in place in the second

So, went to a good friend of mine at Dodge Ram. Due to PCM restrictions and VIN mapping, even if I install all the parts and the wiring harness yhe PCM will not accept the flas code. RAM has started mapping all accessories to the vin and PCM. So my only recourse is to the 220 amp alternator. Hope I can recover some of the parts dollars I already spent. Bottom line newer vehicles you better make sure it has what you want or order it the way want.

Someone on CF did the install and it worked without adding sales codes. I'd do the install anyway.

There are some aftermarket alternators waaay bigger than 220 or even what the dual setup can provide. If the day comes my 180 isn't sufficient I'll try one of them. I think I saw a single 350 or 365 at some point...

The dual setup is 380. But yes, the more I think about it I think one large one would be better.

I still like the idea to use a belt driven compressor in that second location for on-board air.

Yeah, that'd be nice. I'd love a belt driven compressor that could air up tires and airbags...

My truck came with dual alternators and I don't really have any experience with them. I guess it will make winching easier...
Does anyone know if there is a way to charge the trailer batteries faster than through the 7 pin?
I have a blown up ARB dual compressor. Waiting to hear back from them on fixing it. Might get another one and put one or two tanks underneath for quicker air up.

I just installed a 270 amp DC Power alternator with their heavy gauge wire kit. They are piss poor on gets back to you. They don't answer the phone and don't reply to e-mails. I ordered through their website. It took about 2 weeks for me to receive everything. The wire kit is short one cable. The one that goes from the + battery post to the lug on the fuse box. I'm getting a cable from Batterycableusa. The new alternator has a 7 rib pulley on it. My PW has a 6 rib set-up. You can use the 7 rib pulley with the 6 rib belt. As the 7 rib pulley is the same as the 6 rib pulley with an extra rib. Just mount the belt all the way to the rear of the pulley. Then everything is aligned.
