A major wheel vendor would like some input
I work for a large nationwide tire and wheel retailer. I've been asked to provide feedback as to what wheel spec's we'd most like to see for our 2014+ RAMs to target a ~37-40" tire.
What is the perfect offset range for a 17x8.5 8-6.5? Is it Thuren's recommended +18?
Is there another diameter/width combo that you'd rather see offered?
I know that there has been a lot of talk lately with Mike and Marcus's video on tire fitment, but not too much discussion on what wheels are on the market available to us for those tires.
Thanks

Not to toot AEV’s horn, but my opinion is they have a lot of R&D that goes into their products. And their wheels most likely are set at some of the best backspacing/offset for our trucks.
The 8.5” wide version (for 37’s) is a +27/5.8” setup, while the 10” wide version (for 40” tires) is a -15.6/4.8” setup.

I didn't want to bring up AEV for various reasons either, but they do seem like the go-to for wheels that fit the two size needs. But personally I think it would be nice to have a couple more style options than what they offer. The ones with the holes, are IMHO, not very attractive.

I'm not too concerned with wheel specs. I'd just like to get durable wheels that will work with my Toyo MT 37x12.5x17 without rubbing on the suspension like stock does. It would be nice if they look great too, but I could live with not terrible looking.

I’d be happy to share the specs I use. Being that I carry trail ready and spec wheels for 37’s and 40’s. Those two options require a very different approach. Each of them also has a good operating range that varies based on preference.

Yes, I agree...so build some nice looking wheels with those specs!Oilbrnr wrote: ↑Sat Feb 29, 2020 3:22 pmI didn't want to bring up AEV for various reasons either, but they do seem like the go-to for wheels that fit the two size needs. +27mm
I'd like to see some tall skinny's. No one makes them anymore. It might be a hard mover.
But 38x12.50 or 39.12.50 would be cool.
I have a feeling that more people are going to be trying out 38's & 39's in the next few years....

All the manufacturers that did make tall skinnys still do...its the newer companies with modern tire tech that dont. Too bad, cause I agree about the pizza slicer tires...they have their place.OffroadTreks wrote: ↑Mon Mar 02, 2020 8:48 pm

There's a lot of flexibility for wheel offsets whether you're running 37's or 40's. +30mm to +12mm for 37's and -10mm to -35mm for 40's. My pick would be +18mm for 37's and -25mm for 40's.
