tire balance experts

Post by cb1987 » Sun Dec 15, 2019 4:32 pm

last few sets of tires installed on my vehicles i noticed a red and yellow dot. never researched what they meant until recently. while there may not be a system wide standard, most sources agree the red is the runout high spot. yellow is weight low spot. if the wheel has a runout low spot designated with some kind of punch mark the tire red dot should be aligned to the punch mark as first priority. heres where there seems to be some disagreement. if no wheel punch mark exists, most seem to agree the yellow dot should be aligned to the valve stem but a few have said the red dot should be aligned to the valve stem. ive never aligned these dots to anything, mainly because i never knew what their purpose was and the kids working at the local tire shop , from what i can tell, seem to disregard the tire dots . do any of you guys make sure to align the dots in some way ? i fought tire vibration on a few vehicles and wonder if i would of aligned the dots if it would have reduced runout and decreased vibration. on my next set of tires i think ill make it a point to align the dots, either to a wheel punch mark if it exists or the valve stem. even if it does nothing, surely it couldnt hurt to try

huh i didnt ask what the dots are. i know what they are from reading many articles. i asked if anybody here aligns the dots and if so, what method and did it help counter act any runout in the tire /wheel assembly and ultimatly keep high speed vibration to a minimum or not noticable levels
