Time for Brakes
It is time for brakes on my truck. It just turned 65,000km (40,000 miles). I am looking at EBC rotors, with EBC Yellowstuff pads. Anyone had any experience with this setup? Or any recommendations?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: Time for Brakes
I ran EBC yellowstuff on stock rotors and they were great, they wore down pretty quickly though. I just put on some different new pads to try something new and a little cheaper...noticeable difference and not for the better. Definitely going back to EBC here in the new future.

I have had the EBC Yellow pads on stock rotors for about 20k miles. Seem to be going strong, stops great, not much dust, and quiet. Little pricy, but they seem to be worth it.

Re: Time for Brakes
I got the Yellowstuff pads with the slotted and dimpled sport rotors. Love them. Pulled a 9,000 lbs camper around with them. No problems. Stay away from drilled rotors. They like to crack around the holes. On my track car. I'm using the Yellowstuff pads with 2 piece slotted rotors with good results.

I use the Hawk Super Duty's on stock rotors with 35's and they're night and day difference over stock. It'll stop quick enough to make you light headed. I've pulled a couple heavy loads and they work great.

Re: Time for Brakes
Not to hijack the thread but how much dust do the hawks give off compared to stock? I had a set on one of my old cars and loved them, but they were a little dusty from what I remember. Will wrote:I use the Hawk Super Duty's on stock rotors with 35's and they're night and day difference over stock. On a side note, truck has 27K and does not need brakes, however the stock pads leave a bit to be desired in my eyes, is it wise to just do new pads on the current rotors for some additional stopping feel? I mostly down shift to slow down and stop, however the few times I needed the jam the brakes on due to stupid ppl it was a little scary how hard I had to hit the peddle.

Re: Time for Brakes
These are considerably more dusty than the OEM, but from my experience on anything from motorcycles to trucks, a great pad will produce more dust. It's a sacrifice to some great stopping power. I didn't turn the rotors, just swapped the pads in the driveway and did the break in procedure Hawk recommends and they're awesome. They're supposed to last a bit longer than the stock ones. I did the front first and then the back about a month later and could tell another step in stopping power when I did the back. They really help with the bigger tires and I read somewhere these are the pads that most of the ambulances use as well. Also, with the OEM pads, the closer I came to a stop I had to keep increasing a little on the pedal, now I find myself easing off the pedal instead as they start biting.08TwinStickPW wrote:Not to hijack the thread but how much dust do the hawks give off compared to stock? Re: Time for Brakes
I have the PowerStop zinc coated drilled & slotted rotors & z36 pads. They work awesome. Night & day difference over stock. Yes, more dust than stock but thats expected. I tow at max load. No issues so far. Been on almost a year & still no rust on rotors.

Re: Time for Brakes
Just a quick update. Have had the slotted and dimpled EBC rotors and Yellow Stuff pads on for about a week now. I highly recommend them. Stopping power if vastly superior to stock, and pedal feel is way better.

What are the part numbers for the rear ebc setup using the slotted and dimpled rotors and yellow pads? I have been using the fronts now for a couple of years and love it! Had to do a "panic stop" and the guy behind me had to swerve left into oncoming traffic to avoid rear ending/ sliding under me with his rice burner.
