front and rear track width for 2016

Post by rammit11 » Fri Apr 05, 2024 5:59 pm

Hi, looking to see if anyone here has the correct track width for front and rear axles. I have looked a bunch of places on line and find a good deal of variance to the measurements. I want adjust the toe as my front right tire is worn on the outside. I had taken it to the store where I had the tires installed and they checked it and found right tire is ,01 degrees of toe and left is showing .27. They would not do the adjustment because the tire is worn pretty hard and they want to sell new tires . I am planning on getting new tires for the winter ,but would like to try to address the problem so I can run the summer with the current tires.

They wouldn't do an alignment? Take it to another shop. If it was toe wear. It would be on both front tires. Not just one. What was the camber specs?

I need to correct that, they told me it would be a waste of money as they would have to do it again when I got the new tires for manufacturer tread life warranty. Caster is 5.0 left front and 5.3 right and camber is .3 left and .1 right I hear what you are saying on the wear, the hardest wear is on the tire with the low toe angle , want to setup some string lines and check it .

The google machine shows the front track width as 68.3" to 68.6". I guess there are a lot of variables like wheel and tire combination, 4x2, 4x4, etc. Since these trucks have a solid front axle, there's only one toe adjustment on the tie rod, as opposed to IFS which has two. I would recommend following Thuren's alignment specs and setting the toe as close to 0º as possible. That's where I set my truck and I have normal tire wear on all four corners. Once your toe is set, then use the drag link adjuster sleeve to center your steering wheel. If you experience death wobble, you need to give it a little more toe-in.

My 2¢.

Thanks BLM, that is the game plan with the toe and pretty much the same info I found in lime for track width, I was trying to narrow the front track down as it does change measurements slightly if you use the string method to make sure you are square and centered on the truck, just not sure if it is enough to hurt anything.

And for the record, when an alignment is performed, Uneven tire wear is not a factor and an allignment would Not have to be redone with new tires of the same size. The only possible exception would be the case on a solid axle where one tire on the axle is bald and the other is brand new hence they are actually significantly different diameters.

Thanks Bill. I am at the point where one tire is wore down vs the other ,so that would make sense as to not doing the alignment. I just got done making some measurements and found the right front close to 1/8 toe in. I set up a sting line and made the necessary adjustment to get it a little less than 1/32 which for now will suffice. It does feel a lot better driving than it did.
