I love the look of that Ram Runner!!

That had to hurt the "elite" Raptor's ego a little watching that video!

 Well, that just proved what i have said from day 1 of the Raptor: If you want a truck that rides better on the street as more of a car, then the Raptor is for you. Put 4 BMF's in the cab & your at it's max load---with nothing in the bed or being towed !!! If you do tow, all the weight has to be over the trailers tires & perfectly balanced, as it only has 2 rear leaf springs & a max hitch weight of 750 lbs with ONLY THE 150 lb DRIVER !!!

It only cost me $380 (Hellwig LoadPro 35's) to make my "soft suspension" able to tow my 10,500 lb camper w/1250 lb dry hitch weight & i never travel dry. The 2 leafs on the Raptor would not even be strong enough to support the helper springs.

Looks like the local Border Patrol has a fleet of Raptors going into service and they are retiring the older Power Wagons. I can't think of anyone to better test the abilities and reliability of an off road truck LOL. I should soon hear how those who lost their Power Wagon to a new Raptor feel about the switch.

For the terrain all along the border, a Raptor is probably a good choice as chase type vehicle.
A Ram Runner would be an even better choice.

IMHO, a Power Wagon with Carli or Thuren setup would be the way to go, best of both worlds the way i see it.

Real problem with all this is the Ram Runner is still just a concept at this point, right? Wonder if/when it will ever get produced.

Here's an interesting story about the Raptor frame bending from hitting woops.

Are Ford Raptor frames too weak for off-roading?

I'm not sure if this is on the Border Patrol trucks but ford did something to theirs as part of the package offered to them.

I can't see why you would have to pay extra to be able to run it fast when they advertise that you can right off the showroom floor?

Same reason mine wouldn't stay in its lane at 18,000 miles: either "this is what happens when people who have never off-roaded design off-road stuff or it was engineered into the design for future business because the engineers were TOLD the parameters of their design by higher ups. It is just bad business practice IMHO & the sad part is ALL the big 3 do it. Inferrior parts that have a design life. WTF is that anyway. My money says they would get a much more loyal customer if they did NOT have to spend money to fix factory screw ups while still making big payments, but thats just me.

I agree, Twin. Basically, it comes down to keeping costs, especially if a design appears to meet the requirements. But of course we all know after a year or two and numerous complaints, recalls pop up.

A good buddy of mine has a Raptor Super Crew and I’ll be honest it’s not a bad truck at all. The seats are pretty darn comfortable, the back seat is a pinch larger than my Power Wagon, and it does ride pretty darn nice. If I didn’t have to have a truck that could hall 5 tons of hay when the need arises, I might have looked at the truck a little closer. The worst thing to me about the Raptor for daily driving is how soft the suspension is in the corners- at highway speeds in the corners it felt like it had way too much body roll to me. I’ll be the first to admit I’d never jump a Raptor if I owned one- I just don’t live in an area where I do that kind of off-roading. For me I need a truck that can tow a heavy load, take me to the woods during hunting season, and keep me safe during the winter. The Power Wagon was definitely the better choice for me- but others might not feel the same way. One thing is for sure- I’ve yet to see a Raptor on anything but a paved road, and they are almost always shinny clean.
