Bought a 2019 Chevy Colorado ZR2

Post by 04Ram2500Hemi » Tue May 14, 2019 9:43 pm

My wife decided she was done having a boring and practical vehicle, so we said goodbye to her 2009 Honda Pilot and said hello to the 2019 Chevy Colorado ZR2 in Crush Orange and the V6 motor. I think it will go nicely with my 2012 Power Wagon. I’ve yet to drive it, so for now here’s a few pics. When she lets me take it for a spin I’ll report back with my thoughts.

Usually a typical response to a post is ,"useless without pictures", but you my friend, have done the opposite. Haha

I only do what the majority of the 4 voices in my head tell me to. In most cases, I ignore two of them because one doesn't speak English, and I suspect the other is talking to someone else.

Those are loads of fun and just as capable as a PW in mid-size trim I feel minus a few features. But still pretty capable compared to a Yota or Ranger.

The ZR2 actually has more room in the front seat than I thought it would. Because the steering wheel telescopes I can pull it closer to me and it's not in the way of my right knee. The new HD Ram has that stupid dial on the dash, and that's where my knee hits.

The wife is pretty excited with the new truck. She will never use the lockers or go blazing off road. This thing will be a pavement princess of epic proportions. That said, she has what she call's her "tricked out truck" and that makes her happy. We all know the saying, "Happy Wife, Happy Life!"

Spent a couple hours in the ZR2 today (mostly as a passenger). A few thoughts come to mind:
-Seats are comfortable
-Plenty of leg room in the front seat for tall people
-The gas peddle seams a little heavy
-Steering wheel is tight and responsive
-The suspension soaks up bumps really nicely
-The V6 has a nice exhaust note
-Feels peppy, but with 200 miles on it I wasn’t going to do any wide open throttle tests
-The hood is freaking tall. The truck begs for a front camera!

I wouldn’t trade my Power Wagon for this truck, but I can see why people love the ZR2. Hopefully we get a lot of good years out of this truck.

Meh, I’m out of the closet too.

‘Cept mines an oil burner.

We downsized again, no longer hauling a truck camper so we don’t need the full size ram. I debated buying a gladiator but the diesel won’t be out till next year and holy crap is it expensive. A loaded Powerwagon is cheaper. I was able to snag the ZR2 on a company discount. I’m pretty sure the gladiator isn’t that much better for 18K $$ more.

Impressions? The diesel needs a tune, it’s not a hotrod at all. And dammit the tailgate doesn’t open 90degrees :poke:

The wife actually let me drive her truck last night, and after 100 miles of town, two lane highway, and interstate driving I have a few more thoughts:
- The seats are a little more firm than I would like, but they aren’t rock hard.
- I wish the seat cushion was a little longer. At 6’8” I prefer the size of the seat in my Power Wagon.
- The V-6 is pretty peppy and when climbing a hill with the cruise set it downshifts quickly and holds the appropriate gear to maintain speed.
- I’m still amazed at how much leg room is in the front of the cab. The back seat is ok, but it is a mid-size truck.

In short, my wife loves her truck and is very happy with it. I wouldn’t trade my Power Wagon for one, but if she’s happy with it, then I’m happy!

GM is taking a beating on social media over this. Who the hell would buy a ZR2 to tow? "Muh ZRtoo feelz better than a three quarter ton!" Sure thing, Thomas Brosephson.
