After 2sticky got his PW figured out, and set up the way he wants it. Now he's getting rid of it. :cash: :cash: :cash: Now he HAS to do it all over again. :cash: :cash: :cash:

How much does anyone want to bet. That if he gets the ZR2. That he will be back a couple of years down the road with another PW. He be like all the others who came back.

Yup, I did say that ! lol Peoples needs do change. Back down to 2 vehicles will also save us money. But here is the reality of it...for us, your requirements may vary: Wife was harping on & on about "what if we go out in the middle of nowhere & you get hurt or have a medical issue & I gotta drive ? "She could drive the stick but she does not want to. Also, there was ZERO hunting of the transmission while towing camper with the ZR2, which is a HUGE plus. Plus we are retired now & money is tight---we lowered our monthly payment by almost $200. Power Wagon was needing a LOT MORE work. Steering gearbox upgrade, T-style steering upgrade, Borgeson steering shaft upgrade for new box, steering gearbox brace bearing upgrade, etc. So we figured why not put that money toward a new vehicle. If I never would have driven that diesel ZR2, we would not be having this discussion. But it towed our camper like a dream.

I can easily and legally carry more fuel in the bed. For $480, I can get a 15 gal tank, or a 40 gal tank for $1300 that plumbs directly into the stock tank & transfers at the touch of a button. Those in a gas truck would not pass inspection here unless installed by an authorized D.O.T. fuel tank installer.

Oh yeah, who doesn't love getting a new vehicle ?

interesting. I’ve seen criticism of the zr2 diesel that is was a little too small. Obviously you disagree.

I really like the ZR2, and I think it's a great compromise between a full and a mid size truck. The only problem for me is that at 6'8" I just don't fit in the damn thing. I've often thought the ZR2 would be a better truck in the woods as it's smaller but still has the four doors. I don't blame Twin for going that route if it makes him happier.

Pile it on, lol  . Haters gonna hate. :winchmob: is :poke: !!!

Funny thing is, even though it is an auto trans, I got none of the constant upshifting/downshifting/hunting for the right gear, that both my previous dodge autos had. Only issue i felt was it lugging when driving in 30 mph zones in city traffic with the camper on (because it has 2 overdrives ! ahhhh) . But the easy fix was to just lock out 5th & 6th if driving in the city for a while. All the torque is avail from idle, which is HUGE for towing. I even noticed how much less drama the eco-diesel auto trans had.......because the torque is avail so low in the rpm range. Even in the ZR2, the gear ratios could be better. The abundance of low end torque helps make up the difference. Still not sure why Ram couldn't use something like that in the PW. A reliable 3-4L small diesel that made 450-500 lb ft. How much heavier could it really be in this day & age ? 2.8L Duramax is 520 lbs. 5.7L Hemi is 500 lbs, 6.4L Hemi is 700 lbs. Anyways, water under the bridge at this point. Only reason I can see for this deal to not come to fruition is: They change the numbers that they were going to give us for our vehicles. It would be just like a dealer to do that.....wait till your shiny new truck is sitting there & start their bullshit. If so, I can guarantee we will walk. So don't kick me to the curb quite yet !!!

On another note. I found a company that can legally, easily & reliable get 400-450+ lb ft of torque at the rear wheels from the 2.8. If you want to go all out, they made a first attempt of 540 lb ft of torque from it but then you gotta replace connecting rods & more.

What kind of limitations (if any) does Chevy put on the locker function in the ZR2?

Same as ours: have to be in Lo range. Probably have to lock the rear first but not 100% sure about that. I did like the fact that they are instantaneous. No blinking. Though it is considered a "manual" transfer case.....if the TCPS goes bad, you have no use of your lockers. Everything has it's pros & cons. All I can say is that we did not expect this to be happening. I was just amazed at how much easier it was towing with small diesel. Even the wife commented on how much less drama there was towing with it.

People who have known me for a while should sit up & take notice. It would take a LOT for me to get rid of my stick shift PW. Never thought I would. This even surprised my wife. Being able to get 400-450 lb ft, reliably, at the tires, once warranty is up, is just icing on the cake. Our Hemi's are rated at the flywheel. So is the ZR2. This thing bone stock is putting 176 HP at the wheels & 360 lb ft at the wheels. So probably pretty close in the toque but it is all available from idle, not at 5200 rpm like the Hemi. Just like the PW, it is not for everyone. For us, it checks all the box's except the full size truck box. The PW checked all the boxes except mpg & maintenance & being able to legally have a fuel tank in the bed that is not cost prohibitive.

All vehicles have issues, all of them & the ZR2 is no different. My phone don't fit in the wireless charging spot. I will have to remember to pull fuse #18 (there already is a bypass out there) before i go off-road, as someone was making a left turn & going down a steep hill---the truck sensed a roll over & deployed the airbags. $5500 for parts only & GM would not cover it. Kinda like the auto trans PW's shutting the engine off when climbing or descending a very steep hill because it sensed no trans fluid & shut itself off to save the trans. There have been a few over the years who have almost had catastrophic accidents as a result of this.

Already removed the ARB fridge wiring from the truck & 4Runner, removed the ARB fridge monitor, 2nd battery & all the cable, power pole plugs, inverter, Ridgid battery charger. Bed slide will be coming out, cut down & used for version 2.0 in the ZR2. I will miss the storage capacity of the PW.
