Anyone from up that way? May be getting a transfer to one of these two areas. Any suggestions on where to/not to look for a house?

Bundle up. It gets cold there. Get a block heater too.

how hard are block heaters to install? Never had a need down here in Louisiana...I don't know of anything with a block heater on it.

Most replace a freeze plug in the block.

You won’t need a block heater. Unless it’s a diesel or an old carbed car, most modern vehicles have no issue.
Rochester is booming a bit with the Mayo I believe. It’s about 100 miles south of me.
Wade s is more farm land i believe.

you have a gas engine, you wont need a block heater. Rochester is a good sized town, southern MN. I live by the twin cities and way up north but actually applied to the rochester FD. I dont know much about it but seems like a growing place. Good luck in your move. I've lived in MN for 17 years now and have no plans of leaving, its home.

Rochester is pretty nice town; I was there at Mayo Clinic for a hip replacement.
Some of the best medical care in the USA & maybe in the world.
Don't know about buying house; would expect costs may be a little higher due to demand - but that's just a guess.

Shouldn't need a block heater; like others said - unless you have a diesel.

There is a lot of very nice farm country in that area; I think around Waseca also.

Good luck!

awesome y'all! I appreciate it. I've been looking toward Owatonna(sp?), as it falls in between the two. They have good wheeling spots up there? Either for Truck, Jeep or atvs?

I dated a girl who grew up in Owatona. She liked it, its a small town but nice. I drive through it on my way to Albert Lea every month (my Guard unit is there). I currently work up north in the "Iron Range." Gilbert, one of the towns in the range, has an OHV park and is probably the best off roading in the state, probably 4-4.5 hours from the area you're looking at. I interviewed in Rochester and drove to work up north = 4.5 hours drive time.

I should also say my wife and I live in the twin cities metro area, Excelsior to be exact. (I just part time live up north for work) It'd be a little bit of a hike from Excelsior to Rochester daily but I love where I live. Make sure to come check out Lake Minnetonka when you travel up here and we can talk PWs and have a

Reviving this. On March 18, I go on the books up there in Waseca. I found a nice little house in Clark’s Grove, about 15minutes north of Albert Lea. Any of y’all in this area?

Buy the biggest snowblower that you can find at the end of season sales. And take it with you. You'll need it.
