Take all the pain meds as prescribed, better to stay ahead of the curve. Do all of the necessary therapy but don't over do it. You will return to almost normal quick that way! Good luck...

Good to hear, Russ

Did the surgeon say the numbness will go away?

He said there is a nerve that he had to work around. Under my forearm is the worst. And the brace hits right on that area. He said that it may go away with time. Not soon enough for me. :(

For what it's worth, I tore mine 2 years ago. I luckily had one of the best surgeons for that operation in the US. It is now stronger than it originally was. keeping on a strict work out routine helped more than anything else. If you don't work out I think you'll find it won't get back to normal but will be strong enough. The hardest, most painful part for me was wrist twisting excercises which is most of what the bicep does. Actually mentally I freaked out when the cast came off. I've always had huge arms and my arm was bigger when I was in 8th grade. Do all the physical therapy, keep going to the gym after your done with physical therapy and you'll be good. Within a year I was able to do a set of 10 dumbbell curls with 50lbs (one arm). I'm 51 and a lot of guys my age are seeing the same type issues at the gym.

Turning a door knob hurts like hell! First day of rehap. They just want me doing range of motion. No weight lifting for awhile. They had me stretching my arm out and twisting my wrist. They measure my gripping power on both hands. Left hand was 130 lbs, right hand was 105 lbs. when the pain kicked in. I can get my arm out to about 150*, and twist my wrist about 45*. They set my brace so that I have another 10* of motion. I can move it from 90* to 100*, instead of being locked at 90*.

I'm surprise at the number of people who have done this. Where I work at part time at Home Depot. I'm number 4. My brother, and 3 of my neighbors have done this too.

I thought of all you injured guys today. I was squatting down, working on putting some screen in front of the radiator on the 4Runner. When I was almost done, I squatted down 1 last time & felt like someone stabbed me in the leg with a knife, right behind my knee. Not sure exactly what it was but it about brought tears to my eyes. Could have been a muscle cramp but felt like something snapped/popped. Took an hour before I could walk on it again. Still limping on it. Wife said it could have been because I had pants on, instead of shorts & the pants got bunched up behind my knee ? Getting old sucks, that's for sure. Guy I worked with who is younger than me, is having a hip replacement in Dec ! :jawdrop:

ACL. Sounds like you might have a small tear. I got tears in both of mine, plus both meniscus.

Thanks! I can't even go shoot a rifle. Think my hunting season is over too. Have reloads that need testing before the season starts. But that ain't going to happen.

Making progress. In rehab. I can straighten my arm out. Still have trouble twisting my wrist. But it will twist more now then before. Found out that my wrist had a dislocated bone in rehab. That's why I was having pain in my wrist instead of my elbow when twisting. They popped the bone back in place. Thought I was going to die. My grip is still the same at 105 lbs. But my left hand jumped up to 135 lbs. I'm not allowed to pick up any weight yet. Still in the brace, and it's locked at 90deg. I see the surgeon on Friday. Hopefully I can start the weights, and get rid of the brace, or at least allow more motion in it. Enjoying my Comp vacation for the most part. Learned to do a lot with my left hand. Not back to work yet either. Wife wants me to give it up.

Seen the surgeon today. No more brace. Still not allowed to lift anything. Only in rehab for now. Still on comp. I go back on 11/10 to see the surgeon for the last time I think.

Sounds like you're making some good progress. Probably not as fast as you would like, but at least it's progress.

Feels so good to have that brace off. I can sleep better. No more extra pillow. And not worry about hitting the wife with it. She got clucked twice with it. :o And she doen't happy.

My arm is about 10deg from being straight out. Door knob twisting is still an issue. Start with the weights on Monday. Tried to pick up a 1 lb sugar bag. Couldn't do it.

Don't get frustrated with seemingly slow progress. It takes time to heal and you will probably never be 100% agian especiallwith your advanced age
Just imagine if that had happened 100 years ago you would probably never have been able to use that arm agian at all!

Children heal rapidly, he might have been okay if it happened 100 years ago

Went back to work today. Light duty until 12/22 with a 10 lbs limit. That's when I go back to the surgeon. Still going twice a week for rehab. Up to 5 lbs curling with 30 reps. Getting some strength back. Still have some issues twisting my wrist.
