Looking For A Tundra

Post by Ducky's Dad » Tue May 23, 2017 7:02 pm

Not for me, but for a friend. Three years ago he sold his 2G Tundra (to me) and bought a Rubicon Unlimited. Now he wants to go back to a Tundra but wants a new TRD Pro. Toyota seems to be creating an artificial shortage on this model, and they are hard to find, especially in white. He has been searching around So Cal on the interwebs and on the phone with no luck, and the dealer numnutz are jerking him around. So the question to the PW Brain Trust is: Are there any Toyota truck dealers similar to the Dodge/Ram dealers in Idaho who always seem to have PWs (or Tundras in this case) on the lot at good prices, and who will pick him up at the airport so he can just drive his truck home?

If your friend is willing to leverage the strong US dollar there is one at my Brother in laws dealership here in Edmonton in white.

They also have one in grey cement

FYI 62k CDN is 45K US

Thanks for the lead. I just called him and gave him the link, but he's reluctant to do that long a drive. He may come around if he keeps getting stiffed by the locals.

If your American friend buys a brand new Canadian truck he won't have a warranty.

I have looked at this in person. Way cool, way expensive. Lift, 35's, spray in bed liner & on front grill & bumpers too, AMP elec steps that go down when you open the doors & up when you close them. Not a hardcore wheeler. Mall crawler & light duty off-road.

Twin, appreciate the lead, but that is such a poser truck that I'd never be able to let him take that truck on hunting trips and we''d end up putting more miles on my PW. He wants a PW, but even a stock '17 is too tall for the garage at his office. I told him to get a different job.

LET'S BE REAL HERE THEN, AREN'T ALL BONE STOCK TRUCKS POSERS, COMPARED TO A POWER WAGON ?? They are in my book. Tell him to look into a Toyota 4Runner TRD or TRD Pro or a Jeep Rubicon then, but for hunting, you really do need a truck. Wives/GF's/friends tend to frown on blood all over the interior. Or just slap some mud tires on a stock pickup & hope for the best !

We went into a parking garage in Corning NY yesterday with the 4Runner & I only had 1" of clearance from the roof rack rails. I was going super slow & the wife was sitting on the pass window ledge watching to make sure nothing hit ! LOL

FourRunner/Tacoma too small. He already has a Rubicon Unlimited and wants to go back to a full-size truck. A PW won't fit his garage and he can't buy a Raptor because he refuses to wear a flat bill cap.

Is there nowhere to park a large vehicle within walking distance of his office? "Won't fit in the parking garage" sounds like a lame excuse to not get the truck you want.

Not in in downtown Los Angeles. He is starting next month at the same company I used to work for, same building on Bunker Hill. Underground parking is about $600/month, but partially subsidized by the company. You can park somewhere else if you want, but then you don't get the subsidy. He'll also be flying in and out of LAX a lot, and many of those structures have very low overheads. Los Angeles ain't Anchorage.

The solution is two sets of wheels & tires: LT245/70R17E for daily driving (may need to air down for garage access) and 37"s for the weekend.

Yeah, if he puts 29's on a PW it might clear. Or he could just get a Tundra. It's not a PW by any means, but it is a pretty nice truck, and it won't look quite as redneckish when he has to go meet clients. The biggest problem with a Tundra CrewMax is that the bed is only 5.5 feet. Not an issue for him, but I find my Tundra (his old one) really lacking for actually hauling stuff.

He could get the PW and do a custom air bag or hydraulic suspension front and rear.

He'd have the best RTI of any PW out there.

Well, he bought one today. Found it in Bend OR and bought it over the phone, list price. Closest one he could find, only 710 miles away. Now he needs to figure out how to get it to L.A.
