Reloading Bench

Postby RustyPW » Fri Apr 07, 2017 11:08 pm

I'm remodeling the basement. So I had the chance to move my reloading bench from the garage to the basement. Have more room and all of my shooting stuff is in one spot. No more searching around the house now. Need to add another gun safe. I'm about out of room in the one I have now.

Nice set up, but I did get a little dizzy looking at the flooring!

The people who owned the house before me. Was a retired Army Colonel who taught ROTC at the local college years ago. He would have some of his underlings stay at the house. He would put them to work around the house. One of the things they did was the floor in the basement. The whole basement floor is done with old ceramic tile from leftover tile jobs. It's different to say. I believe it was done to cover up a bad concrete floor. The floor isn't flat in some spots.

I have been using Dillon re-loaders for some time. Started with a 550B 20 years ago and it's still going strong. I'm using it for .45, .38. .222 Remington, and 6.5X55 Mauser. Last year I upgraded to a 650 for 9mm and .223 and have easily put out more than 20,000 rounds since Nov. mostly .223. Some friends and I started doing some casual tactical courses and it's really easy to blow through 500 rounds a day. It's all about volume, not necessarily sub MOA accuracy, but I can easily hit an 8" target at 50 yards while running a course.

I have a 6.5x54 Mannlicher-Schoenauer and a 7mm Mauser Model 98.

I've looked into getting a Dillion press. Just never had the room for it.

I moved to a XL650 from a turret press. I can casually load a thousand 9mm in three hours. I've used 550's before but have never owned one. I gave away my old Lee turret press and regret it, I'm thinking about buying a BL550. Unfortunately I'm stuck in the garage for another couple of years.

Yes, it was "sporterized" (shortened barrel, turned down bolt, synthetic stock) by Kimber years ago when they were still in Oregon.
I had an FFL back then and could order guns and have them sent right to the house. No paperwork needed if the guns were for personal use.
