I bought an IOR as part of a SH group buy and IOR engraved all of the turrets incorrectly. Their fix was stickers and then some bullshit exchange months later. The tactical/PRS scope segment has so many good options now there is no reason to deal with questionable transylvanian imports.

Sightron Big Sky 3-12x42--its the best scope for the $ in my opinion. Their glass has been measured in the lab with several optical benchmarks and surpasses Zeiss Conquest, Bushnell Elite 4200 (equals the 6500), Weaver Grand Slam, Burris FF II, Leupold VX-6, Nikon Monarch. I previously posted I sold off my other high end scopes and replaced with the same Sightron S2 Big Sky 3-10x42 (I have 3 on a 30-06, 300RUM, 7RUM). I do own several other scopes, but in this application, those are the best value to me. I have other brands, usually because I was offered them at very very reduced prices in exchange to write a technical review or conduct a field test, so I agree and purchase them at a discount & will continue to use if I don't see any issues with them.

Also, Their SII LR 8x42 or 10x42 ($500-800 MSRP) are also some of the best Binos I've ever used. Sold my Vortex, Steiner fixed focus 10x40, & Nikon Monarch 3 ATB 10x42 & 5 ATB 8x42's and use the Sightron SIII LR 8x42 almost exclusively. I spent about 4 hrs at a high end bino/scope shop in AK at first light & last light (winter time so that was about 1100 & 1400 respectively--I'm obsessive about gun stuff) and ran bino tests using standard resolution/pin cushion/dispersion/fringing targets outside comparing Swaro/Leica/Steiner/Zeiss/Sightron & according to my tests, the Leica were best, barely, followed by the Sightron, which were over $1000 less.

I picked up a pair of Bushnell Ultra Legend HD 10x42 on a super sweet bargain, too good to pass up, so I use those as my truck/pack binos & they're remarkably good for the $75 I paid for them ($250 normal). If you get those for $150ish, do it. The Nikon Monarch 3 ATB are also a good value Bino if you can get those for under $175. The Sightron Big Sky Binos are also in that league and priced similarity.

For the scopes, checkout:

Looks like they've changed their site & product offerings since I bought my last optic from them, here's the closest I can find to what I have:

A little research on Sightron. They're made in the Phillipines with chinese glass now. They was made in Japan with Japanese glass which would have been ok.

Where did you read that Rusty: http://opticsthoughts.com/?s=Sightron&searchsubmit=

http://www.scout.com/military/snipers-h ... n-sightron

I read they were outsourcing their SI line from a Philippine mfr, same plant Nikon uses, but they were assembled in Japan, & their upper end glass is made in Japan, whose grinding machine is tighter tolerance than the plant in Austria S&B/Swarovski/Leica use (they all get their glass fro the same plant)...that was the last time I spoke to their chief Eng in the phone about 5 yrs ago...maybe things changed. I just looked at all 6 of my boxes & all say made in Japan.

Power Wagon owners seem to have similar tastes in guns. Except for that climbing dude who likes 10mm :P well it is a great round. Unlike the 40 which I won't even discuss.

savage lrp 6.5 creedmor

Postby DamageWagon » Tue Mar 14, 2017 1:44 pm

10mm is a great round until you snap your wrist with it lol. Then again my opinion on handguns has shifted to the point that, if you need ten rounds to do the job, even fifty aren't going to be enough for you. My next handgun will be a midsize revolver with a midsize round. Might do a Smith .357. The Rugers are nice and better priced but don't carry the value with them. I'm open to suggestions on revolvers. Looking for a woods/truck gun.

Agree 100%!! I have a Ruger LCR w/ laser in 357mag & G43 as primary carry guns. Love both. Had previously Ruger LCP & LC-9, both just ok. Had Keltec p3AT & traded it for a pf9, great guns for the $$.

I have 6x .45, 4x .40 2x .357mag, 2x 44mag, & 2x 9mm, 1x 10mm & 1x .357sig, although the advancements in powders and CNC mfgr'd bullets the past 5 yrs is making the 9mm more attractive...

I normally carry 9mm. Handgun ammunition in general has such poor terminal performance there no discernable difference between any of the major cartridges found in semiautos. FBI data shows no advantage between 45ACP and 9mm, it's why they went back to 9mm from 40sw. My 10mm is for critters while camping, otherwise it doesn't get carried.

Ain't that the truth...the FBI sure does, ref 1984 Miami shootout, hence the 10mm Dev. I had the original S&W BrenTen variant the FBI purchased to execute the 10mm platform, shitty gun, heavy, long trigger pull, heavy trigger, long reset. Sold that gun & didn't go back to 10mm for 15 yrs. female agents were failing quals at an alarming rate...hence the birth of 40 S&W. Same DIA , shortened, which equates to about 200-300fps delta, for the same ref bullet. The 10mm can be loaded to near 41mag velocities, or down loaded to near 40 s&w velocities, it's extremely versatile.

I thought shot placement and loading procedures were the major takeaways from the Miami shootout. And having comms so the only two agents with body armor and MP-5's aren't busy banging a waitress two miles down the street when your guys are getting killed by dudes with .223 Rugers...

9mm is pretty damn ubiquitous too. It's part of the reason why it's both the wife and I's carry load. I can buy so much of it. And I can buy quality without breaking the bank like some of the other cartridges.

Spending money on lots of 9mm training ammo goes a lot farther than spending $8 a round on .500 S&W.

Ammo is bizarre around me still. I have been looking at one of these: http://www.gunbroker.com/item/629403509 The Cabela's by me said "we don't even carry that gun here because 22wmr is still so hard to get." Yet down south, you can buy 22wmr at any corner store. This is the only one they said they sell by me: http://www.gunbroker.com/item/629591707

Lots of .22LR & 17HMR but finding .22wmr is like finding unicorn teeth. No idea why.

I don't have a lot of guns like you guys, 3 handguns, 3 rifles and 3 shotguns is all. Always been a shotgunner and revolver guy. My self defense gun is a Ruger SP101 DA 5 shot .357mag. Pick it up and cock first or just pull the trigger. At home the first two rounds are snake shot and the next three are Glaser pre-fragmented safety slugs. Out in the woods it's five 156gr. JHP. I'm only concerned with bad, close up two legged varmints. Also have a 870 12ga. with a cheap tactical flashlight.

Not entirely. Yes, the investigation revealed reloading revolvers under duress was problematic, and yes, only some were wearing light body armor, and only a few of the cars had riot shotguns, however the assaialant with the Ruger Ranch rifle was shot 10+ times, he continued to fight between 5 & 6 min after sustaining the first shot, which the forensic coroner stated was the actual lethal shot, but lack of penetration permitted him to continue fighting, firing 45-50 shots, seriously wounding 4 Agents, 2 mortally. Thus the lack of ballistic penetration & poor bullet homogeneity in close quarters pistol exchanges, through bone, light fabrics, and sheet metal doors led inexorably to the development of a new pistol cartridge, spawning the S&W 10mm & 1076 semi auto pistol. A gun that doubled standard revolver capacities & has the terminal ballistics in a 180gr rnd near that of a 145gr .357mag---its pretty bad ass.
