Whiskey shenanigans !!!
Whiskey shenanigans !!!
Ok, so here we are sitting around the dinner table, after dinner was over. I asked my son to hand me the Jim Beam Black. He asked me, which one, the double aged or the triple aged ? What ?, I really never noticed this before. Upon further investigation of such matter, I found the evidence of Whiskey shenanigans.
Can you spot the dilemma ?
Double Aged 8 years.
Triple Aged 6 years.
If double aged means 8 years, then triple aged should be 12 years. At least with my math anyways. The big bottle is older than the smaller bottle. Did some new way of fast forwarding the aging process take place recently that I am unaware of ? I will be sippin some while I wait for the response of those with more whiskey sense than me.

does NOT approve of that !
Thats lower than low. In fact, I think it is anti-American ! Just wait till the good folks in Kentucky find out about that ! They are gonna be all kinds of pissed off !

Re: Whiskey shenanigans !!!
jim beam is aged 4 years, thus double aged is 8 years...according to jim beam standards.
based upon law, a minimum of 2 years is required for aging. based upon the law, triple aging is 6 years.
double standards? took me a couple drinks to figure this out. now where's my jack daniels?

So regular Jim Beam is doubled aged, and double aged is quadruple aged? I don't drink, so this is all very curious to me.MSCH2112 wrote:jim beam is aged 4 years, thus double aged is 8 years...according to jim beam standards.

Re: Whiskey shenanigans !!!
That is not reg JBeam and JBeam Black, they are both JBeam Black, so logic says the aging process should be the same, right ? They have been on my shelf for over a year & I never noticed that before. My son noticed it.

I prefer 2 day old moonshine. Thinking on making the stuff myself. Need about $2,000 to get started, and a bigger shed.

Re: Whiskey shenanigans !!!
Knob Creek is better. Buy stuff that is already aged, then age it some more son. I like to get the single barrel, usually aged 9 yrs, then hold on to it for 3 more years.
12yrs is a great age for whiskey. Each year aged changes the flavor, so it really depends on what you're into and your pallet. I'm serious about my booze.

Re: Whiskey shenanigans !!!
That's chinese crap. Here you go. https://milehidistilling.com/ I figure a 8 gallon still with a thumper should make plenty. One I learn from researching this. The smaller the barrel, the faster it ages. A 55 gallon barrel takes years. A 5 gallon barrel takes months. 1 gallon barrel takes weeks. It's all about surface area with the wood. I have a 3 liter barrel. I can taste the difference in about 2 weeks, and see the color change. I got a fresh batch before Christmas. I'll wait to about March (my birthday) to crack it. Also have cherries in another batch.TwinStick wrote: Rusty. Let me know when you get it perfected. Still up in the air. Wife wants to be able to tow the PW behind the motorhome. Can't do that with the Aluminess bumper. I want to drive the PW out. Plus we have a sports car meet at Deals Gaps NC in May, and some other stuff going on around the same time.

Uhhh---whiskey DOES NOT age in the bottle son, come on now, that's amateur stuffMikeKey wrote:Knob Creek is better. Buy stuff that is already aged, then age it some more son. I like to get the single barrel, usually aged 9 yrs, then hold on to it for 3 more years.

Only wine continues to age. 9 yr Knob (my once fave) will always be a 9 yr bottle. Plus once you find a good highlands Scotch, 12+ yr, burbon will taste like JP-8...

Re: Whiskey shenanigans !!!
You can use wood chips. It's all about surface area. More chips, faster the whiskey picks up the flavor and color. There is a couple of different color chips to use. Will wrote:Dude on moonshiners figured out how to make aged whiskey in 24 hours with some tech and wood.....
