Chevy ZR2 with Duramax and Front/Rear Lockers
Not sure if anyone has been following this thing, but it's shaping up to be a pretty decent little truck. http://truckyeah.jalopnik.com/the-chevy ... 1789023826
"Beyond the obvious awesomeness of that hood scoop, seriously aggressive front bumper and desert-style bed-mounted full-sized spare the truck apparently has a 2-inch lift over a standard Colorado (and definitely a wider track,) front and rear electronic locking differentials, skid plates and 31-inch tires."

2wd with rear locker locked!
4wd hi with rear locker locked!
Blasphemy!
Seriously sounds like a neat truck, especially with the dura-jr-max.

Not impressed! Here's the article that I read. Look at the 4th picture of the red zr2 TRYING to flex. The front is level, while they have the rear axle twisted. What are they hiding?

Re: Chevy ZR2 with Duramax and Front/Rear Lockers
I think it's an interesting little truck. It's about time the Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro got some serious competition. This thing also comes with factory rock sliders, full skid plate package and special bumpers with skids that give better approach and departure angle. And while it's true IFS doesn't flex that well, it rides better than a solid axle up front on the road and washboard. But you can't get our level of flex without spending some serious cash.
Either way, really impressive to see the market expanding. I am hoping the Rebel gets some real offroad comps next year.

Re: Chevy ZR2 with Duramax and Front/Rear Lockers
I ain't gonna lie, I would LOVE to have a mini-Power Wagon-ish vehicle that could pull my camper in a pinch. It has the same torque there-abouts, as my PW's 345 hp & 375 lb ft of torque. With an 8 speed auto trans, it just might do pretty well towing 3500 lbs, depending on the gear ratio's. Just having the lockers will make it a great little truck. 2wd w/locked rear =
Maybe it will make others get their heads out of their ass's & actually make something to compete or make what they have better (even though that concept is not used much these days.)
Not exactly sure what "locked transfer case" means ? ( I'm thinking it means 50% power to the front axle & 50% power to the rear ? ) Many of the things the PW already has though.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
AND.........While we are watching the ZR2 video, I gotta get this off my chest: is wrong with all the truck commercials these days & the people that make them ? Bare with me here, You come out with an amazing new little truck, OK-cool, You tout it's off-road prowess with all these "revolutionary new off-road features" (even though the Dodge PW has been there-done that), OK, then you show a video of the truck slipping & sliding all over the place !!! is wrong with you ?
DOES NOT APPROVE OF THIS !
Show a reg Canyon/Colorado trying to make a hill, but it can't, because it is slipping/spinning-------THEN SHOW THE ZR2 LOCKED UP VERSION CLIMBING THE SAME HILL WITHOUT SPINNING A TIRE !!! How f-ing hard is that !!! Apparently Dodge/Ram/Fiat/Daimler/Chrysler or whatever the f*** they call themselves these days, didn't get that memo either !!!

Re: Chevy ZR2 with Duramax and Front/Rear Lockers
The spinning a tires is a play on the growing popularity of desert running.
If I didn't need to tow my Airstream, I would seriously be considering one of these trucks. Slap a winch on there and some 33's and you've got a nice overland rig.

All the commercials showing the vehicles off-roads looks good. But take your vehicle off road, Then take it in for warranty work. Then find out that the dealer cancelled your warranty because you went off roading.

I hope they use serious skid plates. Or offer crate engines cheap... Look at that oil pan exposure. Here is the production truck they tested.

Re: Chevy ZR2 with Duramax and Front/Rear Lockers
Yup, article said skid plate for the engine & trans. Probably wont be very thick though. It will give the aftermarket more business. I am hoping things come out aftermarket for this truck because it is a Chevy. LIKE AFTERMARKET SHOCKS, lol I can't even imagine how much factory replacement ones will be. I am old enough to know that ANYTHING using the same technology as Formula 1 or Lotus/Ferrari means . I believe factory shocks for the Ford Rapturd are quite expensive !!! http://www.stage3motorsports.com/FR3-0K ... k-Kit.html
Just to have them rebuilt is $500.

You can see the skid plates in this video. I think GM is going to see a ton of these.

This truck has an electronically controlled transfer case, so it has "auto" 4WD, where the traction control system shifts in and out of 4WD as needed, and the "locked" mode. Locked just means driver-selected 4WD.TwinStick wrote:Not exactly sure what "locked transfer case" means ? Next question is, does the transfer case have a low range? Some auto 4WD's do not have a low range.Low_Sky wrote:This truck has an electronically controlled transfer case, so it has "auto" 4WD, where the traction control system shifts in and out of 4WD as needed, and the "locked" mode. Video states you have to be in 4-lo to engage front locker.
Re: Chevy ZR2 with Duramax and Front/Rear Lockers
Lets just hope that it is not over priced right out of the gate---like the Nissan CTD's. It will kill it before it even takes off. I think I already got the wife talked into one !!!
Re: Chevy ZR2 with Duramax and Front/Rear Lockers
For those that are interested, the gear ratios seem appropriate for work/tow. http://gmauthority.com/blog/gm/gm-transmissions/m5n/
1st---4.62
2nd---3.04
3rd---2.07
4th---1.66
5th---1.26
6th---1.00
7th---0.85
8th---0.66
Reverse---3.93
For rear axle ratio, so far it looks like just 3.42. Would be great is they offered 3.73 or 4.10's. Wishful thinking i'm sure.

Re: Chevy ZR2 with Duramax and Front/Rear Lockers
I can see them offering 3.73. They used to offer that in the Trailblazer and older Colorado. Even did 4.10's in some of the Trailblazers, but that was back in the days of the 4L60-E.TwinStick wrote:For those that are interested, the gear ratios seem appropriate for work/tow. http://gmauthority.com/blog/gm/gm-transmissions/m5n/

They will end up with something like 3.08's or 3.23's. If they're lucky, maybe 3.43's.

Re: Chevy ZR2 with Duramax and Front/Rear Lockers
Well, the standard Coloraaados have 3.42's so, I can't see them going lower numerically for a more HD, more off-road capable truck touted for "Overlanding." Unless they have rocks in their heads. Hey, but who knows.
Re: Chevy ZR2 with Duramax and Front/Rear Lockers
It would seem that carpet is an option. You can get it with a rubber floor ! It seems they really did their homework. If i drove my PW on the roller ramp shown in the videos, I really don't think my lockers would engage like the Colorado ZR2's. But i would also be smart enough to engage them before i went up. If my truck is under torque, it does not want to lock up. If not under torque, mine locks up within about 3-5'. I needed lockers one time with our 10,500 lb toy hauler on & it would just not lock up. I did the whole Power Wagon shimmy & dance but they would just not lock up. As soon as i got to the top of the hill, then it locked up.

Yup, barely. But seeing as how "I " paid for them, it would be nice to be able to use them when "I " want to. It was struggling but i made it, just.
