LS Swap?

Post by JFordBronco » Mon Nov 14, 2016 6:26 am

Good Morning,
I have a chance to swap in a GM 5.3 into my 79 Ford 4x4. The donor truck was a roll-over but engine, tranny, t-case are all still good. Has anyone here ever done one of these swaps? I would love a 460 but to get equal power, fuel injection and a little more modern technology, why not try this swap. Am I crazy??

I was hoping someone on here may have done it before. If I could find a wrecked 6.4 2500 I'd pick it up, but the price is right on this potential swap! : )

The 5.3 isnt' an LS. The LS1 is 5.7, the LS2 was a 6.0 and the LS3 is a 6.2L

Technically it's not an LS designated engine, however it is "LS1" based as was the 4.8 truck engine. The designation LS is used to designate all of those engines now not just the ones built for camaros, corvettes and other hi-po vehicles. Similar to calling 283-327-350-400 etc based engines all known as Chevy small blocks.

The brand new LT1 and LT4 corvette engines are LS based as well but they recycled the designation to make them way more cooler....
