I only do what the majority of the 4 voices in my head tell me to. In most cases, I ignore two of them because one doesn't speak English, and I suspect the other is talking to someone else.

I have a hard time believing he was actually in the vehicle as it went up the wall. If he was, I hope he had good life insurance.

He has already crashed at over 300 mph. He almost died in that one.

maybe some of you now see why I have a hydraulic winch on my truck, I don't think there's a consumer electric winch that could do that!

Will yours keep working if the engine quits running ? Just curious.

Ours is only as good as the battery setup if engine quits.

Of course it won't run with the engine not running.... how long will an electric run with out the engine running?
The one in that video used an aux engine that tilted so as to keep running at the extreme angle....

I like hydraulic winches too. I just can't justify replacing a perfectly good electric winch for a hydraulic one.

Well, my electric should run for about 1/2 hour without the engine, because I have three batteries (and a lithium jump pack). If I can't get out with 30 minutes of winching, I have bigger problems.

I already answered that & said: "only as good as the battery set up."

The only time a hydraulic winch would be superior for me is for extended use. Elec one would heat up & shut down during extended use. But most times 1 or 2 minutes of winching tops.

I recall reading that the vast majority of the winching in that sequence was actually done top side, not by the vehicle

Yup. A ~90' cable won't quite reach all the way up the dam ;)

When I saw the title of this thread, I thought it might have been about the episode where they are taking sports cars across a desert and almost killed Captain Slow by pulling a winch line tight (by moving the unstuck vehicle) with CS standing on the wrong side of it. The cable snapped him down to the ground and he hit his head on a rock.

"Recovery experts" they are not.
