What was your first pickup ?
What was your first pickup ?
TrueCowboy426's '51 Fargo got me to thinking about my first pickup, a 1961 FORD 1/2 ton 2wd shortbed Styleside/Unibody with a 292ci 4spd. with granny low. Though it was only 12 years old when I got it, it was pretty beat and I continued to beat it until I eventually totaled it one night.
Here a a few pics I downloaded online, not mine , mine never looked this good when I had it ...

Re: What was your first pickup ?
1985 Ford Ranger with a V6, 2wd, and 5 speed. Bought it new after graduation. It was blue and white, sunroof, slider, A/C,... It actually was a nice little truck. And I believe I was one of the first to put wide, low profile performance tires on a pickup! At least around here. I traded it after a year on a 1985 F150 4x4. And then the mods started...

Re: What was your first pickup ?
Mine was a 1957 Ford 1/2 - started with the straight 6 and a 3 speed, ended up with a 351C/C6 combo and 9" rear end w/ 4.10 gears. Got into too much trouble with it after getting out of the USCG and sold it...
I'm just along for the ride...

Re: What was your first pickup ?
The first truck I personally owned was/is a 2005 Dodge Ram Power Wagon. Although this is not a pic of my truck, it is pretty much identical to what mine looked like when I first got it, with the exception of the rock rails which mine did not have and the tow mirrors which mine does have.
Sorry for the really long post guys. I think this is a great topic.

Here is my truck now.
The first truck that I drove on a normal basis, although it wasn't mine, was a 1988 Chevrolet 1500 4x4 short bed. It was a linemen truck, which was used to drive the power lines for the power generation and transmission company that my dad worked for. He bought it from the company, as they used to auction the old units to the employees for cheap, when they were decommissioned and he figured we could use it for something, even though we didn't need it at the time. It had a 305 V-8, automatic, auto locking rear diff (although I don't know what kind), extra heavy duty rear leaves (extremely stiff and could carry a hell of a lot of weight for a 1/2 ton), plain steel wheels, 32" all terrains, am/fm stereo with no cassette or cd, vinyl bench seat, manual windows and locks, rubber floor liner and it was an ugly ass tan color. It was ugly, underpowered, used and abused by the linemen that drove it before me and myself, but there sure is a lot of great memories I have with that truck. It looked exactly like the one below, but short bed and tan.
My dad's first truck and the vehicle I learned to drive in (at 9 years old, on road and off) was a 1977 Dodge Power Wagon. It was a 1/2 ton, short bed. He special ordered it in late '76. It was blue, 4 speed manual with an unbelievably low granny gear and the 318 V-8. WOW! What a tank that thing was! It was basically this truck.
But this exact same color, with the white wagon wheels.
Dang, I wish that thing was still around. I would definitely own it.Sorry for the really long post guys. I think this is a great topic.

Re: What was your first pickup ?
Hey, does a truck that never hit the road count? My Dad gave me a 1959 Studebaker, which i promptly disassembled. I added a 12 bolt posi from a '67 Chevelle, welded in motor mounts, built a .030 over 396 from said Chevelle, and lost my place to work on it. So it sat for years, till I traded the motor for a Cub Cadet garden tractor, and Dad sold the truck. That was actually my first truck.

The first one that I owned was a Dodge 04 1500 Hemi. I beat the hell out of it until I blew out a CV, spit out a shock, destroyed both hubs and about 2k more in damage. From there I moved up to my 05 2500 Cummins.
First truck in my family that I got to drive was a 1984 Chevy K30 with a 454. God that was a cool farm truck!
