I remember a guy on DT who made his single cab long box into a short box- that thing was pretty cool for going off road. To me the ultimate would be an extended cab short box Power Wagon with a Utility Bed.
Yea its a shame dodge wont make its sweet PW concept truck. I like its proprtions. If i didnt have my very expensive topper (winter time dog palace, camper), i would make a step side bed like the concept truck has just 3gen style. I found a great deal on a nice used Bradford Built flat bed and almost went that route but the Misses had to remind me of just how expensive the topper was at the time  :(
X2 that concept trucks body style/tire size / etc. would be tits for all of the narrow, rocky, steep trails around here. PW quad cab not so much.
2005 Black Pow Wagon mods: DT Profab Steering Brace, Gibson superflow catback single exhaust system, Locker Bypass, Moog ball joints (see how long they last), New OEM track bar bushings, T-steering upgrade w/ Bilstein 5100 steering damper, Power everything, Heated leather seats, (keeps the better half happy), Rear window defrost, Bilstein 5100 shocks, 35x12.5x17 Toyo AT2 Extremes, Customized H2 alloy wheels, Original rock rails with family friendly steps welded on, Tri fold tonneau, Hi-lift extreme jack, Tool box along with all the essential PW gear. New winch cable, Winch TPS bypass, Cardan joint grease zerk discovery. New front grille assembly. Magnesium Chloride under coating.

If you ever happen to see me running somewhere, you should start running too. :)

I know it's a Ford but this is what I'm talking about. If they would have made a Power Wagon in an extended cab short box like this I would have been all over it. I like having some space inside for my hunting gear, but 90% of the time or more it's just me in my truck and the full four door can be a little over kill.

I think Ford went the way of the Raptor because they didn't have faith in themselves to build a truck similar to the Power Wagon, plus they wanted to go a route nobody else had gone. I applaud their efforts with the Raptor. While the Raptor is a different truck from the Power Wagon, I don’t believe it’s a bad truck, and it fit’s a niche that other trucks don’t. Hell- I gave the Raptor a serious look when I was trying to decide on my next truck. The 6.4L V-8 they put in the truck is a great motor, and the 6spd Auto they have is pretty impressive too. The big thing that killed the Raptor for me is that I refuse to buy a truck that doesn’t have a solid front axle. I need to have a truck that can tow a big load, take me to the woods, and back and forth to work on a nasty snowy day. The Raptor could have done a few of those things well- but I would never be able to put 5 tons of hay behind a Raptor.

That FERD concept was called the "Boss Hoss". They figured the cost was too high as is/was & that no one would buy them or enough of them to make it worth their while from a business standpoint. Plus it had to compete with the POWER WAGON & Ford didn't want to take the gamble. So they invented their own niche with the Raptor---no competition in that arena. I really wish they would have produced it, it may have made Dodge step up their game a little with some better bumpers. Plus Ford did not have the legendary POWER WAGON name to rely on. It was just a re-birth for Dodge. The Ford had lockers f & r, winch, winch bumper, skid plates, manual trans & i think a larger fuel tank. Too bad, sometimes competition is good for the consumer.

Yup...I think it was actually called the Big Hoss. I remember the issue of 4 Wheel & Off Road that profiled it. It would've actually been a cool truck had they actually produced it (without all white grille & bumpers). You're right it could've pushed Dodge further and been good for the consumer.
