Transmission Issues

Post by FordyceCreekTrail » Tue Aug 27, 2019 8:54 am

One of the reasons I am so nervous about Rams is the terrible record on Transmissions. Well, yesterday on the way to work I would start out from a stop and eventually the truck would clunk 2x then take 15 seconds to get to 30MPH. It did some of this clunking new and everyone said it would stop after awhile and it did. This truck many times seems reluctant to downshift, but I figured that was the nature of the beast. It felt like it was getting stuck in a higher gear yesterday, and refused to downshift. It was so bad I almost drove straight to the dealer. After I parked at work later and took off again I had no issues the rest of the day. Dealer service is not answering phones. Is this likely computer flashy or shift solenoid...or?

Welcome to the world of "Learning Transmissions".

I often see the opposite affect that you are seeing... If i've been towing a lot over the course of a week, and then use the truck without the trailer, it downshifts early and the shifts feel strong and not particularly smooth. After a few days, it gradually adapts again and smooths out... *sigh*

All of this is "normal" behavior but there is always the possibility that you have an actual problem...

Still fine at this point. But I mean it was almost un driveable for 20 miles or more
