Mopar Ignition Coil Redesign

Post by coder » Fri Feb 01, 2019 10:07 pm

After 175k miles I replaced my original 07 ignition coils today with a fresh set of mopar coils and was surprised to see they have been redesigned.

They added a small insert presumably to improve electrical current flow between the coil and the spring to the plugs I personally have not seen this on any other coil. Not a huge deal but kinda cool IMO.

These same coils are used on all Hemi's the 5.7, 6.4 and the 6.2 supercharged Hellcats and Demons.

Yes, I did actually. I felt a slight bump in throttle response, low end torque and MPG, overall the engine feels smoother. I don't know if it was because I replaced coils with a lot if miles on them (even though there were no codes/issues) or the new coils are better.

Did you replace the plugs or anything else at the same time?

I changed my plugs about 3-4 months earlier so when I did the coils it was just the coils.

hmmm...I wonder if the performance increase is from a "better"/newer-design coil or if the old coils were just "worn out"(do they wear out?).

Coils do wear over time they develop increased electrical resistance until the voltage drops below spec or dies and throws an error code. However OEM Hemi coils are known for lasting a long time and being able handle much more than factory HP.
