Looking good. Hopefully you like the little increase in power the new bumpstick will give you. One nice thing about that cam is it is stock PCM friendly (at times I wish my cam was). Are you planning on just running the stock tune or are you going to get it custom tuned?

Peter, were there any visual clues of the blown head gasket from the outside ? Like a carbon trail or build up.

Very slight. Always hard to tell with as dirty as everything gets off-roading.

I have to tell you on this journey I have learned so much about the pros and the cons about the hemi.

Lots to share if folks need to know something and eventually I will write it all up.

I have decided to pull piston 8 and replace the piston rings on it.

Reasons are quite simple. It had the coolant leak and it appears to have a small leak in it which I think is what is causing my oil to dissipate (I think called blow by).

Fun fun. Rest of the pistons seem to be in good shape.

Well this weekend has been a lot of wrenching and a Steelers game we won't talk about.

Made a ton of progress this weekend and hopefully will be starting up the truck on Tuesday.

Pulled piston 8 and put new rings on. Then had a ton of fun with my new exhaust header on the passenger side. Turns out the engine mount brace is larger on the 2003-2005 Rams so I modified it and now my passenger side header fits.

Ok it has been a long day.

Got the new tune this AM so I figured I would install it and get through the startup/burn in process.

Got the truck to turn over but then it died and wouldn't restart as the battery was dead.

Charged the battery and got it started and it through a P0016 which is the two sensors monitoring the crankshaft and camshaft were off.

So I turned it off and took the front apart again. Bought a scope so I didn't have to take the head off and got everything reset (I swear I checked it 4 times before.)

Got the whole thing back together and just started it again.

No errors so that is good. The issue I am having is getting it to not stall below 1500 RPM. It feels like it isn't getting enough gas. Any thoughts on why?

The vacuum hoses look fine. Could it be the throttle body without it throwing an error? I cleaned the MAP sensor as well.

Update. I narrowed it down to likely the PCV valve. I got it out and it was all gummed up. The Air Intake Manifold in general is pretty dirty and there is really no way to clean it.

I hit a hiccup though. After cleaning the PVC valve it broke while putting it back in the manifold.

Long story short I have ordered another manifold and new PCV valve.

The rest of the vacuum system seems to be good. All the vacuum lines are in good shape.

Let me know if folks think of anything else but I am pretty sure that is the culprit.

Took that out and it wasn't bad. Cleaned it, but likely will just get a new one as well. Might as well make the whole top of the engine new ;)

How & what did you clean it with ? I have read that certain things, like brake cleaner, will mess them up. I have no first hand knowledge of this though. I have used brake cleaner to clean O2 sensors, sand them shiny & reinstall & never had an issue.

Quick update, I changed out the intake manifold and the MAP sensor to no avail. It may be the throttle body.

I sent off a data capture to the tuner to help troubleshoot.

Hopefully will be able to narrow it down soon.

I'm sure you have already tried this, but have you tried running the truck on the stock tune or even reloading the tune once you had the battery charged? If the battery was low when you installed the tune it could have gotten corrupted (common problem).

I would put a battery charger on the truck, reinstall the stock tune and see if it will run. Your setup isn't radical enough that you will have any drivability issues on stock tune. If that works, then put your custom one back in and try again.

Other than that just the obvious stuff to check, grounds, fuel pressure, vacuum leaks etc. A lot of people forget about the ground on the back of the head.
