Tundra to Power Wagon - Moab, UT

Post by RockytheWagon » Sat Apr 18, 2020 10:41 am

Hey all you cool cats and kittens,

About 6 months ago I sold my first overland build, a ‘15 Tundra Crewmax, and got into a pretty well equipped ‘17 PW. I found the truck on eBay of all places. Bought a one way plane ticket, handed a guy a check in a California parking lot, and drove off into the sunset. I’ve been loving the truck so far. Two things brought me to this forum. 1) Googling “Dodge Death Wobble” 2) Looking up info on tires, suspension, etc. Bought the truck at 42k, now at 50k and I’ve been experiencing wobble/wag. Thanks to the info on this site and some help from Thuren, I think I’ll have it sorted out. On deck is Thuren rear track bar, 2.5 Kings, and some Cooper STT Pros in 37x13.50. I’m on IG as @rockythewagon

Excited to be part of this community. Cheers!

Sad to see the Tundra go...

...but I can’t think of a more well built and capable full size truck:

Welcome! It will be interesting to hear your thoughts on how the two compare.
I had deathwobble when my truck was new, because I went with some used 37" tires. I had them balanced and rotated and it went away. I have some some SERIOUS battle getting rid of it on Jeeps in the past, however. Lots if good advise on here!

So far really enjoying the Power Wagon over the Tundra. Feels like a lot more truck and has everything on it I still wanted to do to my Tundra... lockers, 37's, etc.

GFC is awesome! So functional and extremely well built. I have recently had a rubber hinge start to crack. I sent pictures to GFC and even though I'm a second owner they are including me on their "PIT" stop where they will come replace seals, hinges, gas tubes, etc in your driveway for FREE. Very impressed with their customer service.

Trials bike is where it's at! I have a Beta 430 enduro for longer desert riding out here, but for technical trails and just overall playful fun my still-kicking '05 Beta 270 trials bike is a blast. Just gotta carry a little extra gas (2.4L tank). Gearing is low, tire pressures are low, and the thing just crawls up anything.
