Soon-to-be 2019 PW Owner — Question Re: 35s?

Post by btsbarton » Thu Nov 21, 2019 10:09 am

Hi I will soon be the proud owner of a 2019 Power Wagon. I put a deposit on a white one that is currently in transit to the dealer, which should arrive some time within the next few weeks.

My understanding is that 35s should fit easily with no additional lift, so I’m thinking I’ll have the stock 33” Duratracs removed immediately and replace them with 35” Falken Wildpeak AT3/W. The tire is available in both 315/70R17 (E load) and 35x12.5R17 (E load). The rolling diameter and widths are nearly identical, the 315s being a fraction of an inch shorter and wider, but $30 less per tire. Any reason I should actually get the 35x12.5s instead of the less expensive 315s?

Thanks!

Yep 35’s fit no problem, might need to do just a little fender liner trimming. Same goes for 37’s, which basically fit with no modifications but just a little rub.

Tire sizes between P-metric and Imperial LT can distinguish different tire construction depending on how the manufacturer does it. Generally metric stays small and inch goes bigger, that’s frequently the only difference. I’d go with 35’s so every Toyota owner doesn’t ask you what size you’re running that requires getting 9 digits into explanation followed by some math...

I vote for 37’s by the way :)

Yeah I’ve noticed the sizes are typically a bit smaller for 315s, the Wildpeaks are 34.6” for 315s and 34.8” for 35s, which is pretty negligible. The tire load rating is both E for the Wildpeaks, some brands I’ve noticed it is different.

Took delivery yesterday! Already got to put the 4WD to work! 35s ordered, will be having them installed Saturday. Next I’ll be looking into White Knuckle sliders... Do they come out far/low enough to be beneficial as a step?

Awesome, I know on trucks I’ve seen sliders create MORE of a hindrance getting in and out and I certainly don’t want that.

They work as steps. My wife probably still thinks they actually ARE steps. She doesn't complain about em at all. I did put some ruberized skid tape on the top side to improve traction.

I ordered a set during their Black Friday sale... now I just have to wait for them!

I also got 35s (315/70/17) installed already! They at least don’t look undersized for the truck like the stock size does.
Love this truck so far!
