Tried to post previously but it was denied for some reason...waiting for a 2018 PW to be shipped in...in hopes of trading 2016 Land Cruiser. Tell me I'm not crazy!

so I have had a couple Cummins in the past and have put toppers on them both...I kinda like the idea of the ram box system but want the cover of the topper for my dogs and other stuff...any folks have thoughts on how I can accomplish both?

I've looked at some of the aftermarket rack systems and wondered if I could manufacture a type of soft cover that could be used with them and then removed when not necesssary. Anyone seen anything like this?

Welcome from one newbie to another! I too traded in a Cummins for a PW. The 9k diesel option and 6.5k PW option is a step up unless you are constantly towing imho. I ordered mine as well and wish I had made the decision years earlier. My first trip to Utah made it even more clear the me. We were going down trails several stock 4 door wranglers and even a new try Tacoma wouldn’t do.
I didn’t order the ram box for the same reason although I really like them. Look up the Decked cargo system. I plan on ordering one soon and still can’t decide wether I want a camper topper or overland rack. For now I’m still slowly adding small mods life diff guards and such. You won’t regret your PW decision in the least though.

I had drummed around an idea like that when I was swaying back and forth between getting a rambox truck or not. I was also thinking about somehow retrofitting a typical hard topper, that had a hinged section on each side that would swing to allow room for the ramboxes to open. Neither of those ideas have gone much farther than that, though, as I really don't have much of a need for a topper. I have a rambox truck with a roll up cover and it works perfectly for my use. I love the ramboxes and am super glad I got them. But I see why a lot of people want a topper... they are very handy.
