New 2018 Power Wagon Owner

Post by YelmWagon » Fri Dec 14, 2018 10:42 am

Hi everyone,

I got my PW in September in Tacoma, WA. I previously had a 2015 Ram 1500 Eco Diesel. I loved it, but it was not very offroad capable and it had air suspension (I hate those). I am loving the PW, but as you can imagine, coming from a Eco w/29 mpg, to a PW with 11 - 13mpg, is a big shock. I recently got a bed rack and transmission/oil pan skid plate from Dethloff MFG. Won't be doing any more major changes to the PW for awhile. Waiting for tires to wear down, then will upgrade to either 35's or maybe even 37's.

Welcome to the community. Always nice to see more of Dethloff racks out there. If your truck is new, the MPG's should improve as the engine breaks in. It's kind of common. I get that range right now on 37's with a lot more weight on my truck.

If you're under the first 5000 or maybe even 1000 give it some time. Otherwise, consider that the MPG might be your foot. Because a lot of guys on 37's getting the same. And you're on stockers.

Anyhow, welcome.

What size Airstream is that? We have a 27ft International Signature FB.

Thanks for the welcome BoldAdventure! Marcus was great to deal with. He is working on a few more rack ideas for me. The Airstream is a 2011 23' Flying Cloud. Wanted a bigger one, but the deal we got on it used was to good to pass up.

I am still having to get used to not gunning the gas. With a diesel, you have to gun it at first, since the turbo takes time to spool up, then back off. I definitely need to get a different rear trackbar. The rear on this thing bounces around a lot. I understand that Thuren has a good set-up. Maybe I will get it and have a holiday work project.

The Thuren rear track bar will improve things dramatically with all the bouncing around back there. It's a def a recommended first upgrade when you get into the suspension stuff.

Thanks guys, definitely thinking hard on buying it. Bought 4 Yakima roof bike racks today for the family to go on the bed rack. After that, mama cut off funds in the short term, LOL! The PW is my new love interest. She got jealous.
