Why the lack of subforums?

Just an odd observation. Site is pretty active, but every technical questions gets dumped into a single forum; "Power Wagon Talk"

And it seems like at this point, the site could benefit from some break up in the technical discussion, especially for newbies who are searching for things, like "What's the largest tire size I can fit". I mean you've got one subforum with 2775 posts in it.

Seems like we could break it out something like this, that might better serve the community -->

Lifts / Suspension

Wheels / Tires

Engine / Mechanical / Troubleshooting

Maybe even electrical for all the lighting discussions and bypass kit talk, etc.

Just a thought...

We are still working on the update. Also if and when it does start to get moved around with sub-categories, it's going to take a lot of time. So it will eventually get there.

Some/many of those things are covered in the "stickies" on the "Power Wagon Talk" section. Some by themselves & some in the "Power Wagon FAQ's---Please read first" section. Better organization would benefit the community though. Probably be good to have the Gen's separated, so people can go right to their Gen of truck, but on the other hand, some stuff may apply to more than one Gen ?

Subforums only make sense (to me) if the number is severely limited. If you look at sites like Expedition Portal or ShotgunWorld, there are so many subforums that there is no good way to keep up with new posts, and threads get lost in the maze.

Personally, I see no reason to change anything.

Problem is there are so many there (12 stickies) and some are out of date.

We're a niche site, that is vehicle specific. We're not targeting dozens of things like expo. So breaking Power Wagon talk out into 3 or 4 categories wouldn't hurt anything. Especially if the focus is narrow.

But right now, stuff in there gets lost fast.

I've been thinking on this a long time. This is the way I would break it down for most part. This still could be tweaked.

Sub-forums.
Welcome thread,
3G, 4G, 4.5G, 5G, Things that only go with each generation.
General, sub-forums PW pictures, and Videos, general talk.
Tires And Wheels,
Lighting,
Brakes,
Exhaust,
Intake,
Engine, and Drivetrain
Audio, Video,
Exterior & Interior,
Member Builds,
Get togethers,
The Lounge. Basic anything goes. Sub-forums to this would be Politics, Funny pictures, Jokes, Firearms, Other vehicles, Sports, Photography-pictures, videos, Pets.

Have it somewhere when someone posts a question. Need to know what year and generation of PW. I'm starting to get confused on when generations change and what changed. CRS!

I would like to nominate TwinStick as the mod for 3rd Gen/Worst Gen section.

The only "10" I like is a shotgun. 4-10 mule dual trigger. That and a nice loud .308

Also, I have another question. What happened to the site staff? Other than Chris... :poke: Like they're ghosts who never post up.

It's called life, and in a good way. Everyone's been very productive and/or busy lately. I just constantly check up on posts that need approval or clean out the spam accounts since I'm somewhat self-employed. Now speaking of approvals, part of the issue with account approvals has to do with the server and format of the forum software. Not entirely sure why, but it seems some accounts get activated and others get stuck/hung up. Hopefully after the upgrade/update things will flow again.

I often forget that working in web means I'm in front of my browser more than other people.

Other than using the net for research this is the only website I frequent. It's my home page. The rest of the Internet just gets you in trouble

I'll go against the norm - I personally still think this site is 'small' enough for the one area... Saves me hassle from jumping from sub-forum to sub-forum to sub-forum to find/read new posts. I find all the area's interesting.

I agree with vanished and cruz - the forum/site is just fine as-is

It is definitely changing. Life changes. I see less & less posts of some.

I will agree that there are a lot of sticky threads and I want to try and organise that.

Pit Slave, are you the only active mod around here?

Question, who is running/moderating this site? Are they even alive? I get people's lives get busy. But if you don't have the time to dedicate to the group, why not appoint some new people or something.

http://forum.powerwagonregistry.org/vie ... 274#p81259

FirerescuePW makes a great point about these threads, they should be locked. A matter of fact, if the vendor is no longer around... Why confuse new people.

No offense, but the site seems like it's been on auto-pilot for as long as I've been a member.

Yes it seems as if late, I am the only or most active mod. As stated previously we are working on changing the Host and migrating the site as well as updating the platform. It is taking time to do so and we need to be patient. I don't have control over the situation, I don't own the site. With that said, yes we are way behind on the maintenance of the forum. Yes, the time has come that maybe we need to think about closing or locking some threads. In the beginning we didn't want to close out any threads due to the history of other forums and the abuse of locking active threads. However for me, I feel that it needs to be looked into. There are some treads that are obvious and some that are questionable, that need to be considered for closure and should be placed in an archive sub-forum. I do feel the time has come to break down the site into some more sub-categories, however, we need to consider keep it to a minimum. We don't want it to have hundreds nor do we just want to have two. Organizing will be simple and difficult at the same time. I do like the input of everyone, after all, it is everyone's forum. I will listen to everyone thoughts and suggestions and try to mold the site for you all.

If there is a system to donate to forum costs and stuff, count me as willing to put my money where my mouth is.

As stated in the past, I spent a few years running a forum for F-body enthusiasts before selling it off. As we grew, hosting and things always increased. Although different, we were a regional forum. And I still remember fresh in my mind, getting help was always tough. I'd organize monthly meetups, but no one really wanted to help out. Sadly, I sold it to some guys that abused the members. And I think the community has since died.
HRFBODY_MODERN.jpg
BTW (I know this is bragging) I designed our forum in 2006

I used to even write plug-ins for the vbulletin forum software back in the day: http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/member.p ... 35&u=19847 but I haven't touched them since they got bought out. XenForo is better now anyhow. And phpbb has come a long way too now.

We're keeping our Power Wagon. And I'd like to see the community here continue to thrive. So any help I can I can offer, I am sincerely offering.

I'm just trying to offer quality feedback.

*Also totally agree about mod abuse. This is why I'm no longer in the f-body community. A lot of abuse from mods and know it all mods on LS1 and other sites that won't be named. Then they went and sold their sites. And they turned to even bigger piles of_____

The best forums still seem to be the ones where the owners are still in control of the site, and not some company. There are a few "Ram" forums where you can't even post links to other forums even though the answer someone is looking for, might be there. I HATE THAT CRAP.
